The Lid Switch Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This kit includes the lid switch and all necessary components for installation. The lid switch ensures that the washing machine operates only when the lid is securely closed, acting as a safety mechanism to prevent accidents.

Over time, the lid switch can fail due to repeated use, exposure to moisture, or accidental damage. Electrical issues can also affect its functionality, making it necessary to replace the switch to restore proper operation.

Symptoms of a bad lid switch include:

  • The washing machine not starting or stopping mid-cycle
  • The drum not spinning or agitating
  • The lid not locking properly during operation
  • Error codes related to lid issues

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Jay, The Error F02 is an indication of a long drain. You will need to check the drain hose to make sure that it is not clogged or kinked. Check the electrical connections at the pump and make sure that the pump is running. Check the pump filter for foreign objects and if these do not correct then replace the pump.

I recently asked the question further below and as advised... I ordered the unbalance lever 22001969, however... when I received the item I noticed it may not be what I need in its entirety. I went back and looked over my question and I may not have been clear but I had indicated I was looking for the piece which presses against the lid switch and have kind of narrowed it down to possibly being the plunger. "I could be totally incorrect" I am confident I will still be able to use the unbalance lever... but "is it the plunger that is pushed when the door is closed", (and when door is closed then the plunger pushes the lid switch to show the washer is closed so it can agitate.) I could very well be wrong, and do apologize for not having an idea... but in the photo of a lit switch kit, there is a grey plunger... is that something which pushes the white button on the unbalance lever, then making it so the washer can then agitate. I do so greatly appreciate any and all of your assistance.

Hi. Great website... My washer stopped spinning in spin mode and emitted a burnt rubber smell. Belts look okay and motor has continunity but only turns easily in one direction. I can turn the large pully under the agitator counter clockwise and the agitator turns, but when turning clockwise after a half turn resistance builds to the point where when letting go the pully spins in the reverse direction. Any suggestion to repair this washer and avoid buying a new one? Thanks, Matt

Hello Matt, The motor 12002351 on the unit should turn freely in both directions. You may also want to pull the belt off the unit and check the drain pump WP6-2022030 to make sure that it is also spinning freely in both directions. Make sure that you are checking the motor spinning with belt off.

Hello Mary. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the timer WP22002716 is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit. Make sure the lid switch 12001908 is good. If not, you would need to replace it as well.

Eli, It's not the lid switch, It's most likely a clogged hose or valve screen, and or faulty fill valve WP96160 WP22002360 . Turn the water faucets off, remove the hoses at both the faucets and fill valve and check for sediment in the screens and "flush the faucets, if the screens aren't clogged, replace the fill valve. Thanks and Good Luck
