The Spark Module is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool ranges. It is an electrical component that generates the spark needed to ignite the gas burners. By sparking consistently and reliably, the module allows the cooktop burners to ignite with each use.

Causes of a bad spark module can include normal wear and tear over time, exposure to moisture or residue, or issues with the electronic components that produce the spark.

Symptoms of a bad spark module include:

Burners that will not ignite or light consistently
Burners that ignite but then immediately go out
Only some of the burners lighting while others do not
A clicking sound coming from the ignitors but no visible spark

Note: For harness from spark module to igniters use part number 9756892.

This OEM Whirlpool replacement spark module is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

My oven will randomly go into PF mode while baking. The pre-heat is normal, but more and more often, during baking it just shuts down and the PF is displayed. When I hit cancel and turn the oven back to my desired temp it returns to bake mode. Any suggestions?

The cooktop burners will not light. I can hear clicking but the burners will only light with a match or lighter. The oven starts fine. What needs to be done? Thanks a bunch.

Hello Cathy! Make sure that the area where the comes out of the burner is free of any debris. If that is ok, you will need to try to replace the ignitor WP8523793. Thanks!

The surface burners work but the oven and broiler units do not. I replaced the spark module 5178660. Still have no broiler or oven. Voltage at J1-7 is 120V when broil is initiated and 120V at J1-6 when oven is initiated. When I select broil I get two loud clicks and then nothing. (The old module produce no clicks.) When I select oven I get one soft click and then nothing. Suggestions?

Buck, You're almost done, Now you need to run the DCV checks from the DSI module. On J1 pin1 red wire, you should read 8 to 18 VDC in the bake mode, and J1 pin3 blue wire, should have the same VDC, in the broil mode and J1 pin 2 orange is the common lead for both tests. At the gas valve assembly WPW10293048 check the resistance from the center terminal to each outside terminal you should have a resistance of 215 ohms on each test. Also check for the same VDC from the module. If all checks OK, replace the gas valve assembly. Thanks and Good Luck

Gerry, The DSI spaerk module, is a very good place to start. If the "re ignition" circuit in the board has failed, the spark ignition to the oven will not work. You also need to check for damaged wires or loose connections at the gas valve wiring and igniter as well. Good Luck and Thanks

My gas range is pluged into a circuit protected by a gfi outlet. When I try to turn on the oven, it trips the gfi. I unpluged the wires going to the spark monule to try to isolate the problem and the gfi holds allright. As soon as I plug the wires to the spark module back in, the gfi trips. Is the spark module bad or what?

Hello Jim. The range does not need a GFI outlet, and the outlet could be the problem. However, if it has worked properly there in the past and is just now starting, then it sounds like the spark module WPW10331686 is bad and will need to be replaced or the outlet is weak and needs to be replaced. Oven and broiler fail to operate. 120 Volts AC are going to the module (pins 6 and 7, at J1), but no voltage (AC or DC) is detected at pins 1, 2 and 3, that operate the gas valves (blue and red wires v.s. orange). Which should be this voltage if the module is Ok?

My oven stopped working during self cleaning...door is locked and control panel is out. Switched the circuit breaker to no avail.

Hello Tina. Check and see if the thermal fuse W11700559 is bad located by the control board. If so, it will cause the problem you are having. It should read closed for continuity. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. My oven (bake) fails to lite about half the time. After hitting the bake key I hear four clicks and gas as it tries, if it does not lite it makes another attempt after about one minute. I can hear/smell the gas when it does not lite. Once lit, cooking is usually fine. On occasion it will also fail during cooking (a re-lite of the baker doesn't work). The broiler and burners are always fine. I replaced the igniter/burner and that seemed to improve the situation for a while but now it is back to the same behavior. I'm wondering if replacing the DSI module will do any good seeing as it's only a sporadic problem. Have any suggestions? Thanks

whirlpool gas range oven stop heating last night on 375 degrees after preheating then about 5-10 min cooking it stop. now the oven and broiler wont ignite, broiler when set to start only clicks twice wont ignite. Could it be spark module ? Whats else could be wrong ? Please advise. THANKS

Eric, Very good, Yes, it could be the spark module WPW10331686 but you also want to test the resistance of the gas valve solenoids (at least 215 Os from the center terminal to each outside terminal) with a multimeter.
