J. Dan for Model Number MDB5601AWB

Hello, I have been having issues for more than two years now with this dishwasher. At first, infrequent....later, all to often. Initially it would not allow any other cycle to run than the Rinse cycle. You could select Regular or Heavy wash but before the washer finished filling with water the display would switch itself over to Rinse and that would be all it would do. When it got it in it's mind to make this unauthorized selection, you could not change it back. The only answer was to cancel the cycle and start over. Then it started only allowing Rinse cycle. All of the other washes were unavailable. Along with the in- wash options, (heated dry, sanitize and the like). Delay and Auto Clean were also un-selectable. The only fix to this was time. Come back a few minutes to a few hours later and try again and it would work. Now it has completely let me down. I can select any wash cycle I like but there is no start when START is pushed. Then after about a minute, all the lights go out. Like you never made a wash selection. My worry is that I will replace the control panel and that will not fix the problem. Or, I will replace the control board and have the same results. How can I know which part is the culprit and avoid replacing both of them....maybe one needlessly? Thank you for your consideration.

Hello J. Dan. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the control panel is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit. Unplug the ribbon cable on the control panel and test from Pin 10 to pin 6. If the unit does not close when the start is pressed, you will need to replace the control panel. Make sure the connection on the control board is clean and dry on the unit. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Hope this helps. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello Darrell. The model number you provided is for a washing machine and not a dishwasher. However, if the unit has a new control panel and the cable is seated properly, you will need to replace the control board as well. Hope this helps.

Bob, the symptoms for both components are the same. Only certain selector buttons work, All keypads are inoperative, Your first check, is to remove the inner door liner to access and test the door switches, both switches have a closed circuit when the switch plunger is depressed. You also need to insure you have 120 VAC at the switch terminals. You'll find the tech data wiring diagram located behind the kickplate panel, in a plastic bag/envelope. You can test the resistance of each keypad using the data sheet. The control panel/keypad assembly 6-919819 is the weakest link in the system and is the most likely issue. Thanks and Good Luck

Bob, Start with the control panel/keypad assembly 6-919819 . I expect the ribbon or the keypad has started to deteriorate. If you have a multimeter and want to test the keypad button circuits, You'll find the tech data sheet behing the kickplate panel in a plastic bag. It will advise you of pin location and resistance on the panel. Good Luck and Thanks

Hello Elmer. If just the clips that hold the latch inplace are missing, then you will be fine. The two screws in the center of the inner door panel hold the latch assembly in place. It should work properly. If the control panel 6-919819 is broke, then you will need to replace the control panel. Hope this helps.

Kerry, You most likely have a problem with the keypads on the control panel 6-919819 . You can use the tech date sheet/wiring diagram and a multi meter to test each key/button for resistance when pressed. The tech data sheet is attached to the back side of the kickplate panel on the bottom front of the dishwasher. Heres some meter usage information : [ http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html] Good Luck and Thanks
