My Whirlpool refrigerator takes the Everydrop 1 filter. I am like on my fourth or fifth replacement filter, with each filter the water it dispenses is never clear. So I have added a highly rated reverse osmosis water filter made by Hydroviv. My question is do they make a bypass cap for my model of water filter? if not can I run it without the Everydrop filter in place, or just leave the current filter in place forever? I should add that even with the reverse osmosis filter in place the fridge still dispenses cloudy water. The water that comes out of the reverse osmosis filter by itself is crystal clear.

Peter, When the water supply to the refrigerator is from a reverse osmosis filter system the "every drop" filter should be removed. Ther is no need to leave the "filter in place forever" the filter housing has an "automatic" bypass system and will work with to without a filter(there is no bypass cap available). The "reverse" action of the filter system can create issues with the water pressure to the refrigerator which in turn can affect both the icemaker and water dispenser performance. After you remove the filter, use the refrigerator "normally" for at least 5 to 7 days, this should "flush" any residual chemicals or residue from the water system.

Tom, your model does not need a bypass plug, the bypass is built into the filter housing. You can tell by when you remove the filter, you can still get water to flow to the door dispenser and the icemaker.

Ellen, Not all refrigerators offer a bypass plug but most will bypass when you remove the filter. If water doesn't flow when you remove the filter then that option wasn't available for your unit. Leaving that filter in place will not hurt anything and should be able to go years without replacing.

Hello Dana, According to the manufacturer, no bypass plug is needed for this filter housing to pass water normally. The replace filter light should be turned off in the following manner as per the manufacturer: Press OPTIONS on the control panel to launch the Options menu. Press OPTIONS, under Filter Status, again to display the percentage of filter life remaining (from 99% to 0%). Press ICE/ WATER, under Back, to return to the Normal screen. The water filter status lights will help you know when to change your water filter. ORDER FILTER (yellow) - it is almost time to change the water filter. While you are dispensing water, “Order Filter” will blink seven times and sound an alert tone three times. REPLACE FILTER (red) - Replace the water filter. While you are dispensing water, “Replace Filter” will blink seven times and an alert tone will sound three times.

Hello John, the water filter head does not require a filter to work, there is no bypass plug needed. Check if the water reservoir or nearby water tubing down/ behind the rear of the crisper is frozen. It is very close to the air return duct.

Robert, it is possible that the filter is not locking in fully. This can easily be caused when water pressure is being applied during filter installation and would require the filter to be pressed firmly until it is flush with the kick plate. If it will not stay flush, then the locking mechanism in the filter housing WPW10121138 has failed and the housing would need to be replaced.
