Stuart for Model Number Whirlpool Duet GHW9200L

This part has rotated slightly and when pushed it has no give, feels just very solid. All the other buttons on the UI work. How do I know if I just need a new button or need a new Central Control Unit? The CONSUMER SERVICES TECHNICAL EDUCATION GROUP PRESENTS L-68 Technical Manual indicates that when you plug the unit in, you should hear the CCU click. I am unclear if they mean the CCU or the entire washer being plugged in. If it just needs a new button, is there anyway possible to remove the UI without removing the top of the machine, as my dryer is stacked on top and in close quarters. I would appreciate your help and thoughts...

Stuart, You'll need to remove the control panel and separate the user interface and panel, Checl the inside of the control panel to see if the plastic retainer tabs, holding the start button in position are broken or deformed. and check the plastic push tab on the user interface to see if it has started to deform or break loose from the housing. As for the "click" from the CCU, You will need to have the top off the washer and be very close to the CCU When you plug the power cord into the outlet. As soon as the board relay senses the 120 VAC on the wiring, the relay closes and (clicks), but you have to listen for it, it's not all that loud a click. Good Luck and Thanks

Hello Alex. Disconnect the power to the unit. Remove the screws on the back of the top panel and slide the top panel off the machine. You will need to remove the control panel off the machine. Once removed, you will remove the screws holding the control board onto the panel and remove the control board. Now you can access and replace the start button WP8181861. Reinstall in reverse order. Hope this helps.

Cythia, You'll need to remove the control panel, the control board and the user interface to access and determine the issue with the U/I and the button. here's some information : Removing the Washer Top Three screws secure the washer top at the back of the washer. Remove the three screws and lift the top from the washer. Removing the Console from the Cabinet Disconnect the Touch Pad/LED Assembly ribbon connector from the left side of the Central Control Unit and release it from the wiring harness brackets on the right side of the washer top. Remove the detergent dispenser drawer by pressing down on the release tab at the back of the drawer and pulling it completely out of the washer. Once the drawer is removed, remove the screw in the recessed hole next to the drawer opening. Release the tab securing the right side of the console to the washer. Open the washer door and place a flat-bladed screwdriver into the slot in the bottom center of the console . Push the console up to release center console tab. Be sure the ribbon cable clears the cabinet frame. Removing the Touch Pad/LED Assembly from the Console The Touch Pad/LED Assembly is removed as a single unit and contains the Push Buttons, LEDs, cable, etc. The buttons can be replaced separately. Begin by removing the cycle selector knob. There are eight tabs securing the Touch Pad/LED Assembly to the console. A flat bladed screwdriver will be helpful in releasing these tabs. Release these tabs in sequence from left to right around the Touch Pad/LED Assembly until all of the tabs are free and the Assembly can be lifted from the console.' You should do fine. Thanks and Good Luck

Hi Repair N. You first need to remove the top, by removing the three back screws and pushing backwards and lifting up. Then on the inside of the control panel there are "finger" clips that need to be released very gently to release one portion at a time. There is a ribbon cable that goes to the central command unit that needs to be un hooked. All of the machine controls buttons are "sandwiched" all together piece by piece. You have to be care full and separate, paying close attention to inner spring loaded buttons. The start button is part # WP8181861. The user interface is part # WP8181905. Thank you.
