The Flame Sensor is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool gas dryers. This component plays a critical safety role by monitoring the presence of the gas burner flame during the drying cycle.

Causes of needing to replace the flame sensor can include normal wear and tear over extended use, exposure to high temperatures or corrosion, or physical damage to the sensor itself.

Symptoms that may indicate a faulty flame sensor include:

  • The dryer not heating or producing heat properly
  • Error codes related to the gas system or ignition failure
  • The dryer shutting off unexpectedly during cycles

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore gas dryer models.

Frank, You remove power to the dryer, remove the front panel to access the gas valve and burner assembly. disconnect or remove the two wires from the terminals of the flame sensor. using your multi meter set at the lowest scale place one meter lead on one terminal and the other lead on the other terminal. your meter should indicate a "closed" circuit. If the re is no resistance or infinite resistance the switch is stuck "open" and is inoperative.

Hello C. Claussen. It sounds like the venting system is clogged or kinked. You will need to check the vent and clean it out. Be sure and clean the vent pipe and the dryer air duct assembly. If the air flow is not good, the unit will retain moist air causing the clothes not to dry. Try running the unit with the vent unhooked from the back of the dryer and see if the dryer works properly.
