For Whirlpool Refrigerator Ice Maker Assembly (Part Number: OEM12405033)

Josh for Model Number MFD2560HES

The ice maker has stopped producing new ice. I've made sure the lever in the down (on) position and that one of kids didn't inadvertently just turn the ice maker off. Note that the water dispenser inside the refrigerator compartment continues to dispense water properly. By process of elimination, I've narrowed the problem down to the ice maker itself being faulty. My question is, could it instead be a faulty water inlet valve or a clogged filter? Is there anyway to be certain that it is in fact a faulty ice maker?

Josh, There are a couple of things that you will want to check. First pull the icemaker out and check the fill tube on the unit to make sure that the fill tube is not frozen. A frozen fill tube would be caused by a water valve that is not seating fully and allowing water to trickle into the unit and freeze. This would require a new valve. If this checks ok then you will want to get a piece of insulated wire and strip the ends off of it. Pull the cover off of the icemaker and put the jumper wire in the holes of T and H. The light switch will need to be pushed in to allow the icemaker to start cycling. When the fingers in the icemaker reach 3 o'clock position, pull the jumper out of it but make sure that the light switch is still pushed in to complete the cycle. You will then use a multi-meter and set it for auto or AC voltage, put one lead in the hole next to V and one in the N hole. When the unit gets to the 11 o'clock or just past position the icemaker should show voltage across these 2 points. If there is no voltage then the icemaker D7824706Q is faulty and if there is voltage then the water valve WP67005154 is faulty.

Hello Aliraval, You will need to replace the filter housing WP2199840 since it should dispense water with no filter installed.

Lj for Model Number 10657575791

We have a Kenmore Coldspot, Model# 10657575791. Water seems to be leaking from the input hose (not sure what else to call it...the hose where the water is injected into the ice maker). The result is that the ice is completely freezing over the ice maker and into the holding bin. To be clear, there is one solid iceberg living in the freezer where the ice maker used to be. Tried removing all of the ice from the various parts and within a day or so it was back with a vengeance. Could this be remedied with a new seal? Or does it sound like we need an entire new ice maker? Thank you!

Hello LJ. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the water valve WP2188542 is bad and will need to be replaced.

Hello Don, This is a failure of the icemaker cycling thermostat WP627985. If you got that icemaker D7824706Q from us, you should call for a return authorization to prevent having to repair a new part.

Hello Don, If you are getting hollow cubes you most likely have a bad water valve. Think of it like this, if the icemaker doesn't fill completely, the temperature sensor that normally monitors the water temperature of the very last cube actually monitors the ambient air temperature inside the freezer compartment. The icemaker has to fill completely to allow the full freezing time required to freeze the ice completely and prevent hollow ice cubes. It will cycle when the cycling thermostat reaches about 20°F.

Hello Ice. Make sure the freezer is between 0° and 5°. You need to check and see if there is power going to the water valve when the icemaker cycles. If so, replace the water valve on the unit. If not, or the icemaker does not cycle, you will need to replace the icemaker on the unit. Also, check and make sure the fill tube on the unit is not frozen and clogged. If so, replace the water valve and thaw out the fill tube. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Sonny for Model Number GS2SHGXKT01

Thank you for responding back, I checked the flap and its closing perfectly, do you have any other suggestions ? Ice continues to form at the top of the chute area and in the dispensing area where the ice cubes come out. I'm using a heat gun to melt the areas every three or four days. Really hoping to correct this issue. Thank you. Lately within the freezer area ice has begun to build up on the ice chute dispensing area and also where the cubes exit the ice tray. I correct the problem by pouring very hot water on those areas, but the build up comes back in two to three days. Not sure what part needs to be replaced. We really like this refrigerator and would like to order whatever part it may need to correct this issue. Thank you Sonny Sonny for Model Number GS2SHGXKT01 ANSWER Hello Sonny. Check and see if the flap in the dispenser is broken. If so, you may need to order and replace the ice door kit 8201756. Answered by AppliancePartsPros.com | Monday, June 23, 2014

Hello Sonny. If that is closing and sealing, then you will need to look for a place where warm air is coming into the chute assembly. This is the cause of the frost.
