For Whirlpool Replacement Icemaker (Part Number: OEM12405033)

Ice Maker Mechanism Getting Stuck. For many years we have had a problem with our icemaker getting "stuck" and not proceeding with ejecting the cubes. I am alerted to the situation by slightly more intense clicking sounds from the icemaker than the "usual" presumably normals clicks during the cycle. The (temporary) "fix" for the situation is to open the freezer door and grab the part of the ejector mechanism with the the finger-like projections that sweep the cubes out of the tray and shift it a couple mm along the axis of the rod it rotates on to break free what appears to be a little frozen water that had bound/frozen the sweeper fingers to the rod and stopping the operating mechanism in its tracks. Then everything is fine, usually for the next day or so (at least 4 to 5 ice cube making cycles), at which point it happens again. If I don't go through this routine, the machine will NEVER produce any ice cubes. The ejected cubes are of normal size and not stuck together. On inspection, there is no visible ice on the sweeper arm or rod. There has not been any overflowing of water in the tray and no visible splashing of water from the filler tube onto the sweeper mechanism (although that is what I suspect may be happening). The refrigerator is appropriately tilted back for door closure (placing a level on the top of the refrigerator box shows the back is 1/2 inch below the front). Have you run into this situation before? Ultimately, what is the solution that will work? Is there a simple solution such as using a dab of silicone caulk or a piece of plastic to shield the end of the rod near the filling tube OR will I have to get a new replacement icemaker, recognizing that may possibly not solve problem of the water presumably getting to the sweeper/rod junction and then freezing the two together and then straining the operating mechanism again, requiring my never ending manual assist? (At least that is a lot easier than filling ice cube trays at the sink!) Thank you

Hello Chuck, This is either a weak cycling motor in the motor module or the mold heater is weak and not getting the mold warm enough. I would replace the icemaker D7824706Q and I believe this will end your constant Icemaker assist issue.

Hello Randy. If you continue to have a drip, it sounds like you may have a bad water valve part# [W10408179]

Hello Abbey. Check and see if the icemaker is overfilling and causing the buck to fill up. If so, replace the water valve on the unit. If it is not overfilling, and the icemaker is leaking, you will need to replace the icemaker on the unit.

Hello, Recently I purchased icemaker 4317943 on order 4090856 as our ice maker quit working. The new icemaker works but the cubes are now hollow. I looked on your site and some other sites and it said the valve might be bad so I bought valve w10408179 from you and installed it. We still have hollow ice cubes. How do I adjust the fill level on the ice maker? Our unit is hooked up to a reverse osmosis system as we are on a well and have nasty tasting water otherwise. Lastly, the flow level coming out of the dispenser has never been fast. I was hoping that replacing the valve might fix that. Are there any fittings I can drill out besides the one where the copper tubing connects to the refrigerator? I drilled that out and the water flow is still slow and the ice cubes are still hollow. Thanks

Hello Paul. Set the freezer temp between 0 to 5°. Hollow cubes are a sign of wrong temp in freezer.

Hello Paul, The reduced water pressure from the reverse osmosis system is the cause of your issue. Without bypassing it to increase the water pressure, you would have to install a reverse osmosis booster pump to restore the required water pressure to the icemaker. This should be installed to accommodate the reverse osmosis system and meet the minimum water pressure required for the icemaker, (a minimum of 45 PSI is stated by the manufacturer).

Hello Scott, The most common cause of this issue is the water valve WP67005154. There is the possibility that a set of contacts in the icemaker D7824706Q are sticking but it is more probable that the water valve is the issue.

Hi I purchased a ice maker kit 4317943 yesterday. I did not understand the comment about door with the ice shut to dispense the ice. The wiring harness is on the left side looks like its going through wall of freezer... is this possible? The front control also has a switch that has wires to it for max and min ice. I saw the other option part # 2198597 for the door ice shut...no sure if that is correct with this model and configuration. Can some let me know what you think I need to do. Thanks. ron
