Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Replacement Icemaker (Part Number: OEM12405033)

Hello Billy, You should first check the pins on the icemaker motor W10190935. The pins are located in the center of the white gear. If these pins are broken unit will not cycle properly. If this checks ok then remove the ice motor and check continuity across the pins on the housing of the icemaker. There will be 4 at the bottom, 2 for the thermostat and 2 for the heater. If you are not getting continuity between the 2 inner pins then you have a bad thermostat WP627985 and if you don't have continuity between the two outer pins then you have a blown heater WPW10190929. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Alphonse for Model Number KSRS27FGAL00

I recently bought a new control module for my ice maker because it had quit making ice, that fixed it. Now 3 months later it is leaking water out of the front, on inspection I see the coating is coming off of the tray at the front, compromising the seal. OK, heres the question, will I have to buy the complete ice maker with a new control module, or do they sell it without the control module? I don't want to just replace the tray/heating element because the possibility of causing other problems. Thanks

Hello Alphonse, You will have to either replace the complete ice maker 4317943 or you will have to order the ice maker in many pieces and assemble it. It would be much cheaper to order the complete assembly.

Hi Jennifer, the old wire harness should just unplug from the freezer wall. There were 3 different harnesses in the ice maker kit 4317943. One of them should work for your application. Thanks!

Hello Richard. You need to check and see if there is power going to the water valve when the icemaker cycles. If so, replace the water valve on the unit. If not, or the icemaker does not cycle, you will need to replace the icemaker on the unit. Also, check and make sure the fill tube on the unit is not frozen and clogged. If so, replace the water valve and thaw out the fill tube. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Ken for Model Number Kitchenaid KSRS25QDWH03

Our ice maker in this unit just leaked a whole bunch of water on the floor while we were out. Not sure if there was a ice cube stuck to cause this to happen. Had to shut water off, It appears the water tube freezes up some times that shoots the water in the ice maker, but when that is not frozen it still makes ice pretty good. Also, not sure if it stops completely making ice when the arm is raised. Could this be a water valve that is causing it to freeze and have this water overflow onto the floor? Is the ice maker bad or is this just a matter of unfreezing the supply tube and it was a case of it being stuck that caused the water to spill on the floor? The water dispenser works fine. Can't afford the damage of water on the floor again.. Frig was built 10/96.

Hello Ken. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the water valve WP2188542 is bad and needs to be replaced on the unit.

Gary, First check the wiring at the valve(s) make sure you don't have any crossed wires The valve coils have to be wired in series or they wont operate. You may want to test the ice maker voltage to the fill valve( using a short length of insulated 14 guage wire, with both ends stripped, and a multi meter or test light attached the the icemaker fill valve wires, insert the end of the wire into the "T" and "H" openings in the front of the ice maker, hold the wires there until the main gear starts to rotate, then remove the wire. When the rake arm reaches the 12 o'clock to 1 o'clock position, the control module should send 120 VAC to the fill valve and the light or meter should indicate the voltage is present. If no voltage is present, then replace the icemaker.
