The Whirlpool spark module is an OEM replacement part responsible for controlling the ignition and sparking of the gas burners in a Whirlpool range or cooktop. The spark module is typically located behind the control panel or near the burners, and it generates the electrical sparks needed to ignite the gas for cooking.

Causes of a bad module can include electrical surges, physical damage, or simply wear and tear over time.

This part fixes the following symptoms:

  • Gas burners fail to ignite or have weak or inconsistent sparks
  • Continuous sparking even after the burner is lit
  • No spark at all when attempting to ignite the burners
  • Unresponsive or non-functional burner control knobs
  • Visible damage, such as burn marks or corrosion, on the spark module

The Whirlpool spark module can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Dave, Yes this part is a "new manufactured part" The manufacturer has "substituted the original spark module with this component. All parts purchased from AppliancePartsPros.com are "new" and ordered and supplied by the manufacturers of the product. Wiring the new part is a simple process. The four(4) smaller 1/8 in. terminals are for the burner igniter wires to attach to, wire position isn't critical on this type spark module. The three wires on the left are more critical, if you look at the area you should see words or emblems, stamped in the body of the part, "L" is line voltage into the spark module and have a Black wire attached to it, "N" is the neutral leg of the power supply and should have a White wire attached to it. The third terminal will have an "arrow" or "grnd" stamped on it and a Green ground wire attached to it. If there is no green wire, then the spark module will ground itself to the chassis when the module is attached to the burner box.

Rick, You would want to check to make sure that the ignition switches are good by checking them for continuity. If they have continuity when they are in the on position then they are good. If they check ok then the spark module would be the most likely cause of failure.

Hello Anil. Look on the back of the unit and see if you can locate the module on the unit. If not, then it sounds like the module is under the cooktop and you will need to raise the top to access and replace the module. You will have to disconnect the power and remove the burner caps. Then remove the screws securing the burners to the top panel. Next lift the top and replace the module on the unit.

Without thinking correctly, I removed the module and all the wires to it without marking the wires. I have the same color solid brown wires coming from the left two burners and the same color yellow wires coming from the right two burners. I also have a black wire that was hooked to negative and a white wire that was hooked to positive and no wire at ground because there is no connection on spark module. Is there a wiring diagram I can look at to hook up the wires correctly? Because I do not want to ruin the new module.

Hello Ting. 1. Turn off the gas supply and electrical power to the cooktop. 2. Remove the maintop from the mounting box. 3. To remove the spark module, disconnect the wires from the terminals and remove the mountng screw(s). NOTE: Both types of spark module WPW10110491 are shown in the illustration. Use which ever one matches the cooktop you are servicing.

Hello Bruce. Yes, the center terminal is the ground for the spark module WPW10110491. If yours does not use a ground, you can make a ground wire and attach it to the frame of the unit and the module. Hope this helps.

Hi What is your model # ? There is a wiring diagram supplied after you remove the storage drawer or behind the control panel. The new spark module part # WPW10110491 has markings to let you know which of the 3-grouped together terminals are +, --, and ground which is the green wire terminal. It is denoted by an upside down t with 2- progressively smaller lines. Then you use the other terminals that feed the burner igniter it self. You need to remove one wire at a time to insert them in the same terminal. Thank You.
