The Spark Module Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool ranges. It is responsible for generating the spark needed to ignite the gas burners on the cooktop. The spark module sends electrical signals to the igniters, creating the spark that lights the gas for cooking.

Over time, the spark module can fail due to electrical issues, exposure to moisture, or normal wear and tear. When the spark module becomes faulty, it can lead to various problems with igniting the burners.

Symptoms of a bad spark module include:

  • Burners not lighting or taking a long time to light
  • No clicking sound when turning the burner knob
  • Burners only lighting intermittently
  • Visible sparks or arcing from the module

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

NOTE: This part is only compatible with serial numbers starting with 21 and up on model 8351VV.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Spark Module Kit (Part Number: OEM12030111)

Hello Dave. The most common thing is the burners being dirty or not grounding good. You can check the wiring and the igniters for cracks or breaks. If they are good, and the burner is good and clean, you will replace the spark module 8215557 in the unit.

Hello Stilts. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the igniter 74007498 is weak and is causing the issues with the unit. Test for 3.2-3.6 volts AC at the gas safety valve with the igniter turned on. If the voltage is there, you have a bad safety valve. If the voltage is low, you have a weak igniter and the igniter will need to be replaced. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Will, It's a bit involved, Remove power and the gas sup[ply to the cooktop. Remove the burner knobs and grates. Label and remove all the burner caps(turn 90 dgrs. counterclockwise) label the wires. Remove the two small phillips head screws located under each of the burner caps, and once removed, lift the drip pan out of the opening in the cooktop. If the cooktop is installed properly, you should b able to use a stiff flat bladed tool to separate the cooktop glass from the burner box and lift it up and off. You may want to order 74002138 along with the spark module, it could get damaged during the repair. Thanks and Good Luck

Hello J.C., You should take the top off, not the bottom. You see, everything is mounted to the bottom. Therefore, you should remove the top and the spark module will be accessible. The screws that hold the burners to the top and the screws around the sides should get you in there.

Hello Bob. I would loosen and re-tighten all of the screws holding the burners in place around that burner. You see, usually the cause of the complaint you have is a bad ground caused by a spill or the expansion and contraction of the metal parts where they are attached to one another. If it sparks sometimes, this eliminates the ignitor as the problem and also when the spark module sparks it hits on all of the ignitors wired to that output. If that doesn't do it, remove the screws and polish the pieces where they contact one another. Once you clean up the place where is has lost the ground, sparking will be restored to that burner. Have a great day!
