Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Start-Device (Part Number: OEM20400063)

Scott, The part number for the overload and relay kit on your unit will be 8201769. For this, you may have to cut and splice the original wiring and add 1/4" spade connectors on the wires that connect to the overload and relay. There are holes for them to plug onto the compressor itself. For this, the overload will get the L1 which would be the red wire and the relay will get the white wire on terminal number 2. There will not be a capacitor on this model.

Bill, The blue wire will go to the L1 on the relay and the white will go to neutral. It appears that the orange would go to the capacitor which would not be needed because it mounts to the relay.

First noticed, Freezer ice was wet, fridge area not cold, last night and back wall inside freezer was frosted, so cleaned out fridge & freezer, cleaned rear lower evaporator area fan does run. Shut unit off for good hour then notice water dripping out upper freezer door at bottom corner, not sure why that was!! Re started unit after about an hour, appears it ran all night now Freezer is cool++ but not real cold for making ice, Fridge is not very cool at all, the inside cabinet fan or fans are not moving air as normal. I have both settings at mid to upper range. Had no noticeable noises prior or performance / operational problems.

Rooster, Check for ice or heavy frost on the back wall of the freezer, carefully press in on the back wall, see if you hear the ice and frost on the evaporator crunching. Sounds like a defrost problem.

My wife work fridge stop working, I defrosted plugged back in removed back cover in freezer section check sensor all connections all clear and tight. removed bottom back cover. plugged fridge back in, fan turned on, top fan in freezer running, tapped on the solenoid mounted on side of compressor, made a clicking sound freezer started to put out a little colder air. fridge part not getting cold. could the starter solenoid be the problem. the snap disk on the motor part I tapped make continuous clicking sound while running. like it is running and the kicks out. the compressor did cool down while it clicks through one cycle. should I change the solenoid on side on compressor is that the starter for the compressor?

1 Answer

Daniel, If the compressor relay is clicking then yes the relay is faulty and would need to be replaced.
