For Whirlpool Door Switch (Part Number: OEM18028914)

Mick for Model Number Maytag DE 303

I am replacing the door switch on an old Maytag DE 303 dryer. The new one is just supposed to pop right in. It is just held in by friction; no screws or other fasteners. I realize this part has to fit tightly to stay in place, but I am not succeeding in getting the new one in. The old one was very difficult to remove, but the new one seems impossible to insert in the slot. I know I have the right part. There must be some little tip for doing this because it looks so simple. Please help. Thank you.

Mick, The door switch part number that you listed WP53-0148 is not showing as being the correct door switch for your unit. The part number that we are showing as being correct is W10169313.

PJG, This would most likely be caused by a faulty door switch that is not allowing the unit to shut off when door opened.

Jack, On the door switch it should have Com, NO and NC. The white wire from the power supply would go on Com, the pink to NC and the other white to NO.

Hi Mike. Remove power. You Will need to reach in from the top sides with a stiff coathanger and release the door latch hook. The door switches are defective and need replaced. This part # is WPW10107820. The oven sensor was opened while in the clean mode also. This part # is WP8273340. Thank you.

Scott, You're on the right track, Yes the door switch has got to have a closed circuit, in order to start the machine, its not necessarily a safety, in the way you mean it. If your door switch circuit is correct, you need to check / repalce the hi limit thermal fuse assembly LA-1053 , if the thermal fuse opens due to a high heat situation, the dryer won't start as well. That component is located on the top of the heater assembly, under the dryer top in the rear left corner of the cabinet. Good Luck.
