Replacement infinite switch for an electric range or cooktop top burner that controls heat from low to high, restoring variable temperature control for a single cooking element. What it does:

  • Regulates power to one top heating element so the burner responds to low-to-high knob settings.
  • Replaces a failed control causing the burner to not heat, to stay stuck on one setting, or to cycle unpredictably.
  • Restores gradual temperature changes for simmering and high-heat cooking when the original switch is worn or intermittent.
  • Matches factory terminal and mounting locations for a like-for-like swap.
What's included: One infinite switch (single top-burner control). Install notes:
  • Disconnect electrical power at the breaker before servicing the appliance.
  • Access typically requires removing the cooktop or back panel; keep track of fasteners and brackets.
  • Confirm terminal/connectors match the original switch before connecting; do not force mismatched connectors.

Hello Milo, The terminals you test between are laid out on the units' tech sheet, but you test terminal to terminal for the proper resistances. This is done with an ohm meter. We could go into further detail with the model number since all models are configured differently.

The front right burner of our JEC9536ADS cook top died a few years ago. It no longer under our cook top’s warranty. After further inspection, and the help of an online appliance expert, we found that both the infinite switch and radiant heating element were fried due to liquid seeping past the rubber barriers above the infinite switch. The appliance expert recommended that we buy a kit much like this one, http://www.appliancepartspros.com/whirlpool-switch-inf-w10485918-ap5608256.html#qa1. The problem is that after the part arrived, the wiring harness for the element and infinite switch didn’t quite match the receiving terminals on the infinite switch. The blue end on the wiring harness terminal block has nibs on the side that prevent it from being plugged in. These nibs do not match the slots on the infinity switch. My question is: 1) Is it possible to shave these nibs off and plug it in anyways? 2) Is it possible to remove the wiring from the terminal block and plug in the wires individually? 3) Or, can I re-arrange the wires in the terminal block to the right configuration ( if they aren’t already). Before the appliance expert recommended this part, we tried to find the original infinite switch and radiant heat burner, but with no luck. The previous infinite switch was a MAYTAG 8507P193-60 (this is the best identifier that is placed on the part) and was held on with plastic clips rather than screws. I will have to drill holes into the chassis in order to mount the W10185285.

Nate, You have the correct part for your model number cooktop. There have been several revisions of the burner element and control switch. The W10823734 is the manufacturers latest version. Yes, you can remove the "nibs" on the blue wire harness connector> use a razor blade or "exacto" knife to remove the "nibs", you may even lightly sand the area if it seems too rough. Attach the harness to the switch so the red wire is at the top of the switch connector, and the manufacturers name (Archles Corp.) is at the bottom and follow the remainder of the instructions and all will be fine.

Hello Nelson. Test and see if there is power coming to the inner ring of the element. If so, and it does not work, replace the element on the unit. If there si no power coming to the inner ring, make sure all wires are good on the unit. If so, replace the infinante switch W10823734. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hi... We have had our custom control switch assembly (AP4009645?) replaced twice, and it has now failed for a third time. (This controls the right-side dual burner) The technician that came out for repairs 1 and 2 pointed to weak knob/stem construction as the culprit, and that is apparently at fault again- there is excessive play in the stem, and the switch is completely dead (turning it does not start fan, light or either element). The rest of the stove is fine. My question before purchasing switch number 3 is; have their been any upgrades to this device, or is it destined to fail again in short order? The cost for parts and repairs thus far approximates the cost of the entire stove when new, and I don't want to put more money into same if there have been no changes!

Hello Again, I had a guy come to look at my large 2 element burner. The one that only the indicator light blinks (but doesn't work at all). This guy feels that the controller switch ( the expensive one) is to blame and need to be replaced. What should I do? My first question to this forum suggested that the burner element had a short in the center, and needed changed out. Please Help! Also, If I order parts and the cooktop still doesn't work can I return them? Thanks, Dave S.
