Nate M for Model Number JEC9536ADS The front right burner of our JEC9536ADS cook top died a few years ago. It no longer under our cook top’s warranty. After further inspection, and the help of an online appliance expert, we found that both the infinite switch and radiant heating element were fried due to liquid seeping past the rubber barriers above the infinite switch. The appliance expert recommended that we buy a kit much like this one, http://www.appliancepartspros.com/whirlpool-switch-inf-w10485918-ap5608256.html#qa1. The problem is that after the part arrived, the wiring harness for the element and infinite switch didn’t quite match the receiving terminals on the infinite switch. The blue end on the wiring harness terminal block has nibs on the side that prevent it from being plugged in. These nibs do not match the slots on the infinity switch. My question is: 1) Is it possible to shave these nibs off and plug it in anyways? 2) Is it possible to remove the wiring from the terminal block and plug in the wires individually? 3) Or, can I re-arrange the wires in the terminal block to the right configuration ( if they aren’t already). Before the appliance expert recommended this part, we tried to find the original infinite switch and radiant heat burner, but with no luck. The previous infinite switch was a MAYTAG 8507P193-60 (this is the best identifier that is placed on the part) and was held on with plastic clips rather than screws. I will have to drill holes into the chassis in order to mount the W10185285.
Answer Nate, You have the correct part for your model number cooktop. There have been several revisions of the burner element and control switch. The W10823734 is the manufacturers latest version. Yes, you can remove the "nibs" on the blue wire harness connector> use a razor blade or "exacto" knife to remove the "nibs", you may even lightly sand the area if it seems too rough. Attach the harness to the switch so the red wire is at the top of the switch connector, and the manufacturers name (Archles Corp.) is at the bottom and follow the remainder of the instructions and all will be fine.
