George March 01, 2012 Kenmore dryer heats up runs for 15 minutes then heat shuts down. Dryer still running. I usually have to wait a few minutes then restart the dryer and heat comes on, but shuts down again.
1 Answer Hello George. If the unit is shutting down, and you have to wait to start it, then the motor is bad and will need to be replaced. If only the heater shuts off, but everything else will run for the rest of the cycle, you will need to check the vent and the blower wheel and see if something is clogged. Hope this helps. Matt August 04, 2011 for Model Number REL4632bl1 My dryer isn't heating up at all on any setting, I've cleaned it completely, replaced the heating element and recently purchased a dryer thermostat part# AP2973862 installed that and have the same problem. What should I do next?
1 Answer Hello Matt. Check and make sure you have 240 volts coming to the dryer. Check and make sure the unit is not set to Air Fluff. Also check the thermal cut off 279769 and see if it is good. You can test this with a multi-meter MA-DM1. They should read closed for continuity. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Dee June 29, 2011 Two questions: 1) Explain what to do with the extra wire that comes with the thermostat cut off kit 279816 piece 312968. We didnt have a wire with our old one so were unsure if its to go to the element. For kicks we left the old one in and it works with several new parts we had, is that OK? 2) How hot is the dryer to get once complete? Our dryer, outside of where the thermostat was replaced, without the back screwed on, is too hot to touch. If touched you would burn your hand. Is this normal, as we wouldnt normally pay attention, due to the fact that the back of the dryer would be screwed on for protection?
1 Answer Hello Dee. The wire is only use on certian models. If it is not needed on your model, it is ok. You will need to test the air temperature coming out of the back of the vent on the dryer. It should cycle between 110° and 155° +-10%. If it is with in range, the dryer is working properly. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Hope this helps.http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
