Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Refrigerator Adaptive Defrost Control Board (Part Number: OEM9328191)

1 Answer

Hello Mike. It sounds like you may have a defrost problem with the unit. Check and see if there is any frost build up on the evaporator coils in the freezer. If so, you will need to test the defrost heater WP67002493 and the defrost thermostat WP67003426. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the control board WPW10503278. Once the problem is repaired, you will need to thaw out the ice on the coils before the unit will operate properly. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Cal for Model Number 10658282890

The freezer section of the Refrigerator defrosts... the frequency increasing. it seems to enter defrost mode and not stop. I can turn it off overnight and it is insulated enough that the ice wont melt, but on the other hand the refrigerator is turned on the ice can melt in quick order when it decides to. when the ice is melting I turn the temp control in the front off (turning the refrigerator off) and then turn it back on to 3/4 or so and the ice will refreeze. I've heard it could be a defrost timer but don't see such a thing for this model. I've also heard it could be a temp control issue, but it really seems to be a defroster turning on and then not turning back off. any further insight is appreciated. thank you in advance!

Cal, You refrigerator does have an ADC Board 4388932, It's located inside the control panel on the ceiling of the refrigerator compartment. Based on the information, that's your most likely problem. When the circuits in the board fail, it will make the refrigerator operate erratically with a variety of symptoms. Start with the ADC board and you'll probably be fine from there on.

Joel N for Model Number Ed2shaxmb10

I've got a ten year old Whirlpool Ed2shaxmb10 side by side fridge. A year ago it started freezing things in the fridge compartment, even when thermostat was set to lowest setting. Replaced thermostat and it's been fine till now. Now, the fridge doesn't call for cool air unless I tap the thermostat panel, or, set thermostat to zero for a minute or two, then turn up again. When working, It's cooling very cold in fridge section again, but within a day usually never kicks in again and both fridge and freezer get to room temperature. In other words, it only runs continuously if we keep messing with thermostat or tapping the panel. Freezer section has been unplugged and allowed to completely thaw and still having this problem. Replace thermostat again? Defrost control board?

Joel, This issue would sound more likely to be a faulty thermostat rather than the defrost control but since the thermostat has been replaced would suggest a defrost control board if it is shutting down once a day but the rest of the time it runs.

Dennis, With nothing on the unit working at all except the interior lights, the issue with the unit would most likely be with the defrost control. The defrost control board part number is 4388932. You can try to disconnect the power to the unit and plug back up. The unit may come back on but you will want to replace the control board as it sounds like the relay stuck in defrost.

Cliff K for Model Number 10659799990

Appliance would work normal for several days then would warm although compressor still working and bottom of ice box still cold, but no freezer-compartment-fan circulation (ie; fan worked periodically) Made ice. Appiance would begin to work normally again after about 48 hours. Replaced defrost timer board 2188159 with 4388932. After replacement: fan not coming on, no ice being made. Compressor still working normally. Both boxes get cold but not as cold as previously (i assume ice and fan issue related) Could the issue be with the fan, or fan relay, or the compatibility of the new board with old? Thanks!!

Hello Ray. That sounds like sealed system failure. You will need an HVAC tech to repair the unit.
