This part is a washing machine timer. This is the component that controls the washing machine functions and the length of time for each of the cycles. Signs that the timer has gone bad can vary. For example, the washing machine may only wash but will not spin or drain. It might skip cycles or stall mid-cycle. The washing machine could become stuck on a cycle also. If this is happening, the repair person can check for continuity through the timer motor by using a multimeter. If it measures infinite resistance, the timer will need to be replaced. Unplug the washing machine from the wall before trying to replace this part. The person performing the replacement procedure should wear work gloves for safety during the process. This timer is compatible with washing machines that are manufactured by Kenmore and Whirlpool. It is sold individually. This part comes directly from the manufacturer.

Daniel, While the transmission may be louder than the original, it is not uncommon for this to occur. If the unit is working properly then allow the transmission time to work in and it may quiet down. As for the issue with not working once it reaches spin then this would be a timer issue.

Reva, Check to see if the motor is running after the agitation cycle completes. It is possible the pump is faulty or has a clog in it which would cause the unit to not advance cycles. If the motor is not turning and not getting power then the timer would be the issue.

I have a Kenmore 80 series washing machine. The machine will fill with water and start the wash cycle....but it will run the wash cycle for ever if you let it. The dial doesn't move to the next step. You can stop by pushing in the knob in and moving it manually to the next cycle. I will even spin out the water....once again, it will spin forever if you let it. you have to do it all manually. I'm thinking timer but wanted to check with you, someone who knows far better than me, before I spend a lot of money trying to narrow it down

Kevin, Yes, all indications are a mechanical failure in the timer gear case or a failed timer motor, replace the timer and you should be fine.
