This part is a washing machine timer. This is the component that controls the washing machine functions and the length of time for each of the cycles. Signs that the timer has gone bad can vary. For example, the washing machine may only wash but will not spin or drain. It might skip cycles or stall mid-cycle. The washing machine could become stuck on a cycle also. If this is happening, the repair person can check for continuity through the timer motor by using a multimeter. If it measures infinite resistance, the timer will need to be replaced. Unplug the washing machine from the wall before trying to replace this part. The person performing the replacement procedure should wear work gloves for safety during the process. This timer is compatible with washing machines that are manufactured by Kenmore and Whirlpool. It is sold individually. This part comes directly from the manufacturer.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Timer (Part Number: OEM18026736)

Drucker, If the unit is presenting like it is filling and draining at the same time then this sounds like a siphoning issue. Check to make sure that the drain hose is not too far in the standpipe at the wall. If it is then it creates a siphon which will cause the issue you are having.

Washer Whoas for Model Number 110.28922790

First I noticed that when you started the washer it would hesitate before starting. Then I was washing and the washer made a loud noise and quit completely. Replaced the capacitor and it started working but the motor was worn out so we ordered a new one. We installed it and it worked for about 5 loads and then it quit working again. It would fill with water, wash, drain, spin and fill with water then quit. I unplugged it and let it set and it would start back working. Then it quit and would not start back. Yesterday it would not start and we unplugged the timer and the motor and plugged them back in and it went through a full cycle. Then I put on a load of clothes and it wouldn't start. Help please.

Alaina for Model Number 11028912790

My kenmore 90 series washing machine won't fill with water on any cycle or water temperature. Prewash does in fact fill, but did not test full cycle. When I manually put the dial on rinse, the drum does fill with water, to the correct level of load, on both warm and cold temperature options, and will advance and agitate and spin to finish the cycle. Not sure what it could be. The lid switch is temporarily bypassed (youtube helped) as it broke just this last week and I have not had time to replace it) but since it is still spinning/rinsing it seems to not be the problem here. I was able to wash 6-7 loads just fine. I do plan on replacing it along with the part for whatever this problem is.

Alaina, With the washer filling on rinse then this would most likely be an issue with the timer of the unit. The contacts for the initial fill are not making in the timer which will cause this issue to occur.

Frank for Model Number 110.26902690

The machine will fill with water. It will not agitate or spin. I replaced the motor coupler (which was bad) and the clutch. I also ohm checked the lid switch and also bypassed the switch. If I move the timer switch to spin it will make a buzzing sound. After several tries of various spin cycles the buzzing sound stopped and it did nothing. I did detect that the plug was a little warm. There is a capacitor next to the motor. Is it the capacitor or the timer and how do I troubleshoot or isolate the problem?

Frank, This issue would most likely be caused by a faulty timer and you could test to see if the timer is sending power to the motor. If there is no power then the issue will be a bad timer. If there is power then the motor would be the issue.

Hello Frank. It sounds like the unit is siphoning out the water in the unit. Check and make sure there is only 6" of drain hose in the drain pipe. Also, make sure the drain pipe is 36" off the floor in height. You will need to check and make sure the drain hose has an air gap going into the drain pipe. If it is air tight, it will siphon.

Jonathan for Model Number 11028922790

I have a kenmore washer model 11028922790 and yesterday when I tried to start a load of laundry the washer no matter what setting I put the knob on too it would start agitating with no water. Then today when I tried it, it started filling with water so I figured it was fine. Then I come back a few min later it wouldnt stop filling with water and overflowed onto the floor. I was wondering what part I need to replace if i had both of these problems?
