The Timer is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It controls the electrical components and the sequence of operations during the wash cycle, ensuring each phase of the cycle occurs at the right time.

Causes of a bad timer include electrical issues such as short circuits or power surges, wear and tear of internal mechanical components over time, and exposure to moisture or detergent, which can lead to corrosion.

Symptoms of a bad timer include:

  • The washer not advancing through cycles
  • Cycles taking longer than usual
  • The washer skipping cycles
  • The machine stopping mid-cycle or not starting

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Robert, You're on the right track, Yes based on your post the problem is most likely the timer, it would probably be a bad interior contact, not supplying all the voltage to the motor to start and turn the motor. But first check and makes sure there are no loose wire connections from the timer to the motor connectors. Good Luck

Hi Willy. You will need to replace the lid switch part # is WP8054980. You can try to advance the timer to spin to remove the tub water(on some models) or then use your shop vac to remove the water. Thank you.

Hello Jack. When the washer fill up to a certain level but not to the desired level and advance the timer onward. The most common cause of this issue would be a pressure switch W10337780. This tells the timer when it's reached the level selected and advances the timer to the next cycle. Hope you find this information helpful!

Hello Jack. Poor filling issues can be caused by a few things. First you may want to remove the hoses on the back of the washer and see if the metal screens inside the valves are clear of debris. If that is clear and you are getting proper pressure, you should then test your water valve. If it is not opening fully, it may cause low water levels. This part can be tested with a multi meter MA-DM1. I will include a link in this message to an article that details how to test various parts with a meter. I hope this helps! http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello Rick. You will want to make sure it's not the lid switch 3949247V that it is not allowing the unit going into the spin cycle. You can test the wires that connect to the motor when it's in a spin cycle for voltage. If you are not getting power to the motor when in spin cycle, you will want to replace the timer WP3951702. Hope this helps!

Glenn for Model Number LSQ9500LQ0

My washer will fill water and stop to its proper level but will not turn to wash or agitate. While I'm waiting for it to turn, I can smell some burnt type of electrical. There are times after 4 or 5 minutes it will turn but you can here some cliking noise on the timer knob. Please let me know if I need to replace both, Lid Switch and the timer knob or what shall I do? About 7 months ago I had it check and the lid switch was replace but it work for that long and its happening again. Can the switch get bad that fast?
