For Whirlpool Washer Timer Control Assembly (Part Number: OEM18052917)

Robert C for Model Number MVWC6ESWW1

Maytag top load washer stopped after fill cycle and will not restart. I checked the kid switch and it wasn't working properly. The plastic has lost some of its elasticity and is not working properly. I was able to rig it so it's functional until the replacement arrives. However, the washer is still not turning on. I also check the power outlet (it's fine). Checked the power cord for continuity, it's fine. What else should I check before I just start guessing and ordering and swapping parts?

Robert, it would be recommended that the timer is tested for 120VAC at the gray wire found at terminal 2. If there is not 120VAC, the lid switch is likely stuck in the open position if there is 120VAC reaching it through the black wire. If there is not voltage reaching the lid switch through the black wire, the power cord can be switched to a different outlet to test run the unit.

Calamity3, You will want to check the drain pump to ensure that it is not clogged or damaged. It could be as simple as this being faulty not allowing agitation or drain if it is seized up. Also, check the motor coupler on the unit to make sure that it is good.

Fred, Check to make sure that the unit is not getting off balance. This would be one of the most common causes of the issue. If it is not getting off balance then check to make sure that the drain pump does not have debris in it causing a slower drain. The temp switch should not cause a spin issue with the unit.

Hello Noah, this symptom occurs when the relay in the electronic load sensing/temp control switch is stuck closed, the replacement part is WPW10248240. It is powering the motor run circuit before the correct water level is reached.

Dave M, The dial for your machine has been discontinued by the manufacturer, but the clicking sounds are normally from the inside of the timer and if it is stripped the only solutions is to replace it as the internal parts are not available. Our part number for the timer is WPW10243947

Richard, check the wiring harness between the temperature switch WPW10248240 and the timer control on the back of the timer. Check the wiring to the water valve and check to make sure you get hot, warm and cold water to and through the fill valve WPW10175893. The more likely issue is the PCB inside the water temp. switch has a failed circuit and has to be "hard reset" to make it fill in the rinse cycle(cold water).

Rick, This issue would most likely be caused by a faulty neutral drain which is inside the gearcase. The part number for the neutral drain will be 388253A.
