The Water Valve is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It controls the flow of water into the washer during the fill cycles, ensuring that the machine gets the correct amount of hot and cold water for washing and rinsing clothes. This valve is essential for the proper functioning of the washing machine.

You should replace the water valve if it becomes faulty. Causes of a bad water valve can include mineral buildup from hard water, electrical issues, or wear and tear from regular use. A malfunctioning valve can lead to issues such as inadequate water flow, leaking, or the washer not filling properly.

Symptoms of a bad water valve include:

  • The washer not filling with water or filling slowly
  • Water leaks around the valve area
  • Inconsistent water temperature during fill cycles
  • The washer not advancing through cycles due to improper water levels

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Rick, Yes, It's a good diagnoses. The water valve WP8182862 isn't sealing tightly when off, water drips through the valve and fill spout, through the dispenser, out the bottom and into the tub.

Hello Eric, As per the manufacturer: Possible Causes/Procedure ¦ If too much detergent was used: 1. Run through a RINSE/SPIN cycle. 2. Run a NORMAL cycle without adding any detergent. ¦ This should clear the unit of the excess detergent. 1. Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked. 2. Unplug washer or disconnect power. 3. Check wire harness connections to the drain pump, pressure switch, and Central Control Unit (CCU). 4. Check/clean drain pump filter of foreign objects. 5. Plug in washer or reconnect power. 6. Check drain pump. 7. Check the pressure switch. 8. Verify CCU operation by running a Diagnostic Test or any cycle.

F20 was on the screen. I removed 2 hoses at the inlet valves and cleaned the filters. After turning on the washer, F20 is gone but water keeps running (without stopping). After unplugging the washer, the water continues to run. I close the hot water, the water stops running. Has the inlet valve on the hot line stopped working and in need of replacement? I closed the hot water line and use washer for cold wash only. However, the washer runs for about 20 minutes and then stops with F20 error code.

Woody, You can test the flow meter by blowing through it and testing for resistance. The issue does sound like the flow meter would be the issue with the unit causing it to over fill.

Andrew, This is considered normal by the manufacturer because the unit operates by using a siphoning of the dispenser tray. The only thing that you can do is empty the dispenser tray after each wash and dry thoroughly.

Jim, Either the ports in the top of the dispenser housing are bad or the diverter motor on the dispenser is not moving fully to the correct position which would cause both the fabric softener and detergent to dispense at the same time.

Randy, Based on your information, Yes, you'll probably need the fill valve WP8182862. Of course you want to remove the fill hoses and check and flush both the water lines/faucets. Then check and clean any sediment or debris from the fill hose screened washers and the inlet valve screens. Replace the valve if all's OK. The F20 code could also be produced by a faulty pressure switch circuit or clogged air tube, but you've covered that, and it does sound like a lack of hot water at the fill valve is the issue.
