The Washer Drain Pump Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This assembly is essential for the washer's ability to drain water out of the drum after the wash and rinse cycles, ensuring clothes are properly spun and not left soaking wet.

Causes of a malfunctioning washer drain pump assembly can include blockages from small items or debris, such as coins, socks, or lint, that accidentally make their way into the pump.

Symptoms of a bad Washer Drain Pump Assembly include:

  • Water not draining out of the washer, leaving clothes wet
  • Unusual noises coming from the pump area, indicating a blockage or damage
  • The washer stopping mid-cycle due to inability to drain
  • Error codes displayed on the washer related to draining issues

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Washer Drain Pump Assembly (Part Number: OEM11860929)

Darlene, You'll need to remove the lower access panel from the front of the washer, and unplug the power cord. Then you can turn the drain pump filter/cap counterclockwise and remove the cap and filter to check for clogs and clean out any debris that has accumulated inside the pump. You'll need a container, or some rags or towels to collect the water that will spill out from the pump.

Rob, Even though you already removed some stuff from the drain pump, you will want to double check it as something else may be clogged in it. If not then most likely the drain pump is bad.

Wayne20657, If the water is not draining from the unit, you will want to access the drain pump and check it for clogs. A clogged drain pump would cause the issue. You will also want to check to make sure that the pump is getting proper power when the unit goes to drain cycle.

Water in the machine even with inlets shut off and washer unplugged Drain Rise spin removes it but fills back in. Sometimes, no problem with water spigots on and power on. No error codes. It's puzzling. We tried the suggestions made by one of your support persons. We run the machine with loads and it works fine. We want to solve this water seepage back into the drum so that it doesn't overflow. Thanks for any suggestions.

PK, If you have the unit in the off position and unplugged but the water supply still turned on and there is water running into the unit then the water valve is faulty and would need to be replaced.

James, If you are having hot water run into the unit while the unit is off then you will want to disconnect the wire harness from the hot water valve on the unit and if water continues to flow then replace the water valve. If the water stops then replace the control board.

Ray, It's not likely a drain pump issue, not without other issues. It is more likely , that there is sediment, debris or maybe a twist or kink in the air dome hose WPW10004260 or drain pump connection, causing the air in the tube to affect the water fill level. You may want to disconnect the air hose from the water level switch WPW10514214 check the hose for twists or kinks, and blow in the end of the hose to clear any blockage. Remove the drain pump filter/cap and clear any debris in the drain pump chamber.

Jason for Model Number WFW9750WW01

Tonight my washer stopped during its cycle and locked the door. After a few minutes, it unlocked and I tried to restart it. It ran for a second and displayed the SUD code. I took everything out and tried to run an empty cycle, but it still wouldn't work. I took the drain filter cover off and a lot of water drained out. I put a few of the clothes back in and tried to run a rinse and spin, but it locked up again. I opened the cover again and a lot of water came out again. The pump motor was very hot to the touch. Does it sound like I need the pump replaced and if so, is pump 8182819? Thank you

1 Answer

Jason, If the pump is clear but not draining the water and getting SUDs error code and the pump is hot then you will want to check to make sure that the pressure hose is not clogged and check to make sure that the impeller and teeth on the impeller are not damaged. If damaged then you would need to replace the pump 280187.
