Kenmore elite dryer routinely stopped after a few minutes when set on the moisture cycle but finished completely when set on timed cycle James L. • Brandywine , MD • December 06, 2014
Did some research via the internet and figured the problem was likely the moisture control board. Watched a video of the repair of a similar unit in order to locate the moisture control board. Used the chat feature with one of the Appliance Parts Pros to get a schematic of the dryer and advice about where to use the putty knife to release the springs for access to the board. Thanks to the lady I chatted with for expert advice. Once the actual task was started, the repair took 15 or 20...

Part Number: 297216019
This mechanical temperature control thermostat regulates your unit's cooling by cycling the compressor on and off to maintain the set temperature. Replace a failed cold control when temperatures drift, cycling is erratic, or the knob no longer responds.
- Monitors cabinet temperature via a sensing bulb and opens/closes electrical contacts to control cooling
- Helps restore consistent temperatures and normal run times
- Typical failure symptoms: too warm or too cold, runs constantly or won't start, no change when adjusting the control
- May cause intermittent cooling or short cycling as it wears
What's included: 1 temperature control thermostat Installation notes:
- Disconnect power before servicing
- Access the control housing; note/photograph wire locations and transfer them one at a time
- Route the sensing capillary exactly as original; do not kink or sharply bend the tube; secure the bulb in its original location
- Set the control to a mid setting and allow temperatures to stabilize before fine-tuning

This thermostat is a temperature-sensitive switch that controls power to cooling components as temperatures change. Replacing a worn thermostat restores consistent cycling and more accurate temperature regulation, helping the appliance maintain stable performance. What it does:
- Senses temperature and opens/closes electrical contacts at set points
- Regulates operation of key cooling components to maintain target temperature
- Helps prevent overcooling, overheating, and erratic cycling
- Failure signs include: no cooling, overcooling, temperature swings, unit runs continuously, or short-cycling
What's included:
Install notes:
- Disconnect power before servicing; verify no voltage is present
- Access the thermostat location; label/photograph wire positions and transfer one at a time
- Install in the same position and orientation as the original to ensure proper thermal response
- Restore power and confirm proper cycling and temperature control

Installed a new touch pad/circuit board combination as recommended by Appliance Parts Pros. The water/ice control now works perfect. The touch pad was somewhat difficult to remove due to surface adhesive. Used a knife to loosen the touch pad so it could be pulled from the plastic panel. Residual adhesive also needed removal with a solvent such as mineral spirits, and Installing the new touch pad also required careful alignment to properly fit the mating plastic panel.
