Well, I got online and found several YouTube videos on how to check what was happening. I have a multimeter and tools. I first replaced the external water filter just to make sure it wasn't that, and it needed it. That wasn't the problem. I then removed the water inlet valve which was really easy. I didn't disconnect the water lines but I did unplug the power plug. Using the ohms setting on the meter, I tested the coil of the valve solenoid. It wasn't open. I checked the voltage at the plug... I unplugged the fridge and took all the food and shelving out of the freezer and then proceeded to take off the bottom sliding drawer rack on both sides off (4 Phillips head screws). Then took off the light bulb cover and then the light bulb. Then the back wall that covers the coils and tubes that the refrigerant runs through ( 2 screws with hex head). After researching a number of sites for a diagnosis I tended to think the culprit was going to be the ice maker thermostat. Checking pricing and availability of the thermostat prices were very close at $40 BUT wait now you have to but the thermo mastic at another $35-$40. And after some continued research the factory ice maker in a $3000 msrp 4 door refrigerator was/is known to be defective long after warranty period expires. I replaced the icemaker. It was fairly easy, with the most difficult part being access to the icemaker in the bottom freezer. I loosened two screws, removed one additional screw, disconnected the wiring and removed the old icemaker. I mounted the wiring harness and ice level sensor arm from the old unit onto the new icemaker and installed it with no problems. I wish I'd done this months ago instead of repeatedly attempting to repair the old icemaker. Read more

Replaced ice maker unit. 4 screws to remove cover on inside door. 2 screws for ice maker. Three connectors: ice maker on/off switch, LED light, wiring harness connector. A second person assisted by bracing the door for me, but not necessary to get the job done. I also used some cellophane and tape to cover the door opening for the 5 minutes it took to replace the unit. Condenser was encased in solid block of ice due to automatic defrost not working. Replaced thermostat and ADC control board. Working fine now. Most tedious part was using a heat gun to melt all the ice off the condenser coils. You will need a couple small wire nuts to splice the new thermostat into the existing harness (they are not included). Service tech wanted over $400 to repair, fixed it myself for half that. Thanks ! I replaced the ice maker after replacing the ice try and before that the ice chute gasket. All easy fixes. However, I am still seeing some frost build-up leading me to believe that the issue is just a faulty design, which I have read other posts on. Just too much warm air gets in the ice maker because it is located in the refrigerator, plus warm air probably finds its way from the outside dispenser, up the chute into the ice maker.
