Fixes loose panels, rattling doors, or wobbly components caused by stripped or missing screws. Secures brackets, covers, and mounting hardware. Easy DIY.
Maytag Dishwasher (about 5 years old). Some of the buttons had stopped functioning. Then the Start button began choosing whether or not to work. Eventually it would not start at all. Upon removing the control panel, the first thing I noticed was that the brackets that hold the two lower screws were broken. (So this was the reason that the door was so hard to open from the time it was new.) I trouble shot the thermal fuse, the door-latch switches, and inspected the control board trying to find... This acoustic fiber is the sound-absorbing insulation used in a refrigerator's machine compartment. Replacing a missing or damaged pad reduces operating noise from the compressor area and helps maintain the unit's intended sound levels.
First I emptied and cleaned out the entire refrigerator. Then I unplugged and defrosted the unit. As that was happening, I vacuumed out the back compressor area. ( the noise reduction pad disintegrated so replaced) , Googled the problem, and watched a youtube video on how to test and fix the issue. Took the back of the inside freezer compartment off and metered the heating coil. It was good. Then popped off the control panel cover in the fridge compartment and tested the motherboard. ... Replacement icemaker fill tube that directs water from the valve to the ice tray. Replace if cracked, leaking, or causing water to freeze in the freezer.
Replaced the water tube that went from the plastic tubing to the ice cube tray. Found that even though it was the same exact length as the original, there was only an extremely small gap from the end of the tube to a splash board. This may have been the root cause of my problems. Read more
Freezer not cooling or running constantly? This mechanical temperature control thermostat regulates freezer temps. DIY-friendly repair in under an hour.
My fridge was often reaching 60-70 degrees but would work well when motor/fans were running; it just wasn't cooling regularly. I checked the coils, defrost, damper, and fans, and they all seemed to work, so that only left the cold control in terms of what I was willing to try to fix. (It wasn't worth messing with the compressor as the fridge is 12 yrs old.) The fridge would sometimes kick on when I tapped the cold control knob so it was a reasonable - and, it turns out, correct - guess. I... Read more
Fix a refrigerator that clicks but won't cool with this compressor start device. Simple 5-10 minute DIY repair restores cooling to both compartments.
After watching a few videos on this site and on You Tube it seemed like the most likely culprits were the starter and the capacitor. I found them easily behind the back panel near the compressor and easily unplugged them. I found the part numbers on this site and ordered them. After a 5 minute installation the compressor came back to life, and my 10 year old refrigerator has a new lease on life. Read more

Freezer icing up or fridge warm while freezer works? The defrost timer controls defrost cycles. DIY-friendly fix in about 1 hour, saves $150+ on service.
I had had the same problem 4 or 5 years ago and spent close to $200 to repair it. I did have the slip from that repair with part #'s so I went ahead and ordered a defrost timer and thermostat. You-tube had plenty of videos on replacing those parts and even before they arrived I was able to add a switch and bypass the broken thermostat and start a cycle manually with the timer. (which it seems was was still functional). Between that and cycling some ice packs up from the still working... Read more
