Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ge washer was very loud during spin cycle   Vincent B. • Merrick , NY • January 31, 2016

After researching the problem on this site, I realized that the most likely cause was a bad bearing contained in the shaft & tube assembly. Essentially, the tub seal failed & allowed water to travel down the shaft & into the housing containing the bearing. I confirmed this by pulling the front cover off of the unit & noticed some brown water pooled directly under the shaft & tube assembly. I followed the disassembly instructions on this site & it wasn't too bad but did take some time as pretty... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You GE washer sounded like jet engine during spin cycle   Scott V. • Centreville , VA • August 26, 2020

My 9-year-old GE washer, in which I replaced the motor two years ago, developed an extremely loud roaring sound during the spin cycle. After reviewing stories here to pinpoint the problem, I replaced the tub bearing, mode shifter, and tub seal. I also installed a new tub nut, split washer, and belt. This repair involves taking the washer apart in order to get at the tub bearing and mode shifter, which are inconveniently located in the very center of the machine. I bagged labeled all the... Hub Nut
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WH2X1193

The Hub Nut is an OEM part for GE washing machines. This component secures the inner tub to the drive mechanism, ensuring that it remains in place during the agitation and spinning cycles. This lock-down nut is reverse threaded, meaning that it is loosed by rotating it clockwise. For easier removal of the old nut, it is recommended to use the tub nut spanner wrench WX5X1325.

Symptoms of a bad Hub Nut include:

  • Unusual noises like banging or grinding during the spin cycle.
  • The inner tub moving excessively or becoming loose.
  • Leakage around the center of the machine, indicating a seal failure possibly related to a loose hub nut.
  • Inefficiency in spinning or agitating clothes properly.

Causes of a bad hub nut can include corrosion due to exposure to water and detergent, improper initial installation, or loosening over time from the vibration and movement of the washing machine.

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ge washer making loud roaring noise during spin cyc;e   Gerald P. • Auburn , GA • January 28, 2018

I had never worked on a washing machine before but after watching the online videos I felt like I could do the repair. I was almost positive it was the Mode Shifter and Shaft Assembly that was bad. I could hear the bearing making a grinding noise when I turned the tub by hand. I ordered the part I needed plus additional parts that could be an issue later such as a drive belt, tub bearing, tub seal, tub nut, split ring, etc; Preventive maintenance that would keep from having to tear it all... Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Drain hose was leaking on my lg washing machine   Terry O. • Temecula , CA • June 12, 2014

I found a video, by another parts vendor, that showed in detail how to dismantle and repair the washer. I wouldn't have known how to even get to the problem without that repair video. Dismantling the washer was easy once I knew how, but would have been like a (litteral) Chinese puzzle without the video. Once I had cracked open the machine and identified the problem, the repair was easy. I ordered from Appliance Parts Pros because they offered next-day delivery of parts. I had the washer back... Ordered new transmission, nut, split washer and spanner wrench to do the install. very straight forward fix after watching the video. spanner wrench is a must or the correct large socket with an impact driver. it was corroded on pretty well let the liquid wrench work for a while and then beat it off. approximately 2 hours to do to fix, spent some time cleaning stuff up also though. washer was 12 years old and debated scrapping it and getting a new one but then it would not match the dryer. ... First and foremost, much thanks to APP for perfect transaction, and incredible price! The part was shipped quickly, and arrived fast. Immediate Availability of the part was outstanding, and truly saved this Canadian's day! Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Washer basket was loose banging/knocking when running eventually gave a 'load out of balance code"   Dwayne D. • Hopewell Junction , NY • September 29, 2014

The repair was fairly straight foward as shown in the video. However, driving the shaft from the bearings took some doing. It required replacing the use of the board with a spare bolt and a 2lb hand sledge. (having an air hammer as reserve, also not a bad idea) I rated this reair as a "1" however I've been an auto mechanic for 40 years. If you do not have good general mechanical ablities you may find this more challenging as you get it further apart. I suggest anyone making this repair should... Read more

Before buying a new ($1200) washer, I found the trouble shooting guide and decided to check if my problem was a simple fix or a complicated procedure... turns out it was the simple fix. Removing the agitator was the hardest part, it lifted straight up, but took some muscle and a belt for leverage.
