Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Evaporator fan making noise/changing speed; freezer light socket bad   Paul S. • Albany , OH • November 26, 2016

Had some confusion of what part I needed, needed the one with the motor and thermostat. Fortunately, I've been fixing wiring for many years, I simply cut the new motor out of the harness, and used that nice glue-inside-heat-shrink tubing to seal the soldered 'Western Union' style splices. New light socket and lamps fit fine, worked fine, new motor is fine, problem resolved. FYI: Look closely at the wiring in you unit, there are two wire harnesses, one feeds the light, the other feeds the motor... Read more

Dust Cap
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WR02X10322

This evaporator fan motor dust cap is an authentic OEM replacement part found on refrigerator and freezer fan motors. This dust cap prevents the fan motor bearing and housing from being damaged by dirt and debris. If the dust cap is cracked or broken, the fan may make loud squealing noises. If the dust cap is not removed and replaced, the fan could stop working and ultimately cause the refrigerator's temperature to be affected. To start, disconnect the power and water to the refrigerator. Remove food from the freezer so that the back panel of the freezer can be accessed to reach the fan. Remove the ice maker and set it outside the freezer. Disconnect the fan and take it out of the freezer to expose the fan's shaft and the dust cover. Pry the dust cover off and install the new one. Replace the fan and cover. Reconnect the wires and reinstall the icemaker. Put the food back in the freezer. Reconnect the power and water. The evaporator fan motor dust cap is a white plastic part that is sold individually. This dust cover is made for use in refrigerators manufactured by General Electric, Hotpoint, and Kenmore.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The ice maker did not crush ice   Joy U. • Galveston , TX • October 02, 2016

When we inspected the first time we found that Plactic had broken from the spiral part that for wards the ice. Also there were cracks in two places of other parts. There was a hole in the bottom of the bin. The new spiral was assembled and two new parts were replaced with help from the video and the diagram and the unit worked well. I bought two parts. The dispenser housing shield and the funnel ice dispenser. I watched the short video on how to put it back together and I was done in just a matter of minutes. Armature Kit (Dispenser Solenoid)
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WR62X26536

This armature kit is the moving plunger and linkage operated by the dispenser solenoid. It opens and closes the ice chute door during dispensing and helps it seal when idle to reduce frost and warm-air leaks.

  • Converts the solenoid's electrical action into mechanical movement for the dispenser ice chute door
  • Helps maintain a proper seal to limit frost and moisture around the dispenser
  • Typical symptoms: ice won't dispense; chute door won't open/close; frost/ice buildup at the chute; loud buzzing or clicking from the dispenser area
  • Wear or sticking of the armature/spring can hinder movement and affect dispenser operation
What's included: 1 armature kit Installation notes:
  • Unplug the refrigerator and shut off water to the dispenser before servicing
  • Access the dispenser mechanism in the door; remove trim/control panel per your model's service information
  • Note the orientation of the armature, spring, and linkage; transfer components one-for-one to the new kit and secure hardware
  • Verify the solenoid plunger moves freely, reassemble, restore power, and test dispenser operation

Genuine Ge part
By: Ge

The recess door retainer secures the dispenser's ice chute flapper in the refrigerator door. Replacing a cracked or missing retainer restores proper flapper pivot and sealing to help reduce frost buildup and air leaks around the dispenser.

  • Holds the recess/ice door on its pivot within the dispenser assembly
  • Helps the flapper close fully to seal the ice chute
  • Restores smooth open/close action of the dispenser door
  • Common symptoms: loose or fallen flapper, poor chute seal, frost or condensation in the dispenser area, and ice clumping near the chute
What's included: 1 recess door retainer Install notes:
  • Unplug the refrigerator before servicing the dispenser
  • Carefully remove the dispenser bezel/control panel to access the ice chute door assembly
  • Note spring orientation and retainer position; transfer components to the new retainer

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Yes ice was not coming out of the dispenser   Jason S. • Goose Creek , SC • December 02, 2014

I replaced the solenoid, door, spring and bucket. The bucket cracked from ice freezing inside it. Ice froze inside the bucket because the solenoid stopped pulling the door closed which allowed hot humid air into the freezer. While I was in there I replaced the dispenser door, spring and crank because they are cheap and the old ones were moldy. The mold is most likely from the door not closing and causing condensation on the parts as well. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The right slide was broke on my GE refrigerator and the drawer was cracked.   Charlotte N. • Franklin , IN • May 04, 2018

I unscrewed the old slide and screwed the new slide back in place and then just slid the drawer in the slide, Just a few minutes of easy labor. Did not have to have a repairman come who normally charges extra on what he pays for the parts. Also the parts are cheaper than buying them at the GE website even though they are GE parts and are identical to the ones I replaced. The service was very speedy. I got the parts in just a few days. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The plastic tube from the valve to the ice maker was broken   Alan K. • Leesburg , VA • May 16, 2015

Thanks to the AppliancePartsPro, I ordered it online and received it quickly. I even used the step by step directions on how to replace the tube from the AppliancePartsPro website. Just be very careful and review the instructions first. Couple of important things: 1. Take a picture of the existing wiring and tubes before you take them apart. 2. *if* you remove the wires ( red and white plugs) from the valve, make sure you plug them back in correctly. 3. Do not pull or push the tubes hard. Use... Read more

Screw
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WR01X10789

This screw is a genuine General Electric part, sold individually. This screw can be used as a replacement part for a refrigerator. A screw can suffer damage in the lifespan of a refrigerator. It can also be easily lost or misplaced. Screws are small parts and are usually installed in multiples to ensure components are reliably attached, so one screw loosening or going missing might not necessarily affect the operability of the refrigerator. However, if the components loosen or the screw suffers damage that strips the part, such as punctures or erosion to the metal material from general wear and tear or from a direct impact, the screw should be removed and replaced with this genuine OEM replacement part. This is an OEM part sourced directly from the manufacturer, and it is sold individually. This screw is compatible with the following appliance brands: General Electric, Hotpoint, RCA, and Americana.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You We had multiple broke slides. I had put too much weight on the shelves.   Colleen M. • Carnegie , PA • April 05, 2021

I ordered the new slides for the shelves, the order came in a couple of days. All parts were there. The husband installed new slides and bearings in about 20 minutes with minimal effort. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ice maker would not dispense ice and chute/container would frost over   Theo S. • Tallahassee , FL • October 01, 2014

When diagnosing the problem, I discovered that the ice door was not properly sealing and that the solenoid had appeared to rust/corrode forcing the door open. I replaced most of the ice dispenser internals (solenoid, crank, door, and spring) following the video. The door will now open when dispensing ice (which it does!), and will oddly stay open for a few seconds once I am finished, but does seal properly and the chute/container no longer frosts over.
