We isolated a burning smell in our kitchen to our refrigerator, GE Profile PSS23MGTCCC which we purchased in November of 2006. First I ordered a new ice door seal, spring, and crank, figuring the condensation in freezer and door was caused by ice door not sealing. Turns out the solenoid for the ice door was completely rusted and was the primary cause, if it had been replaced early, it would have saved the dispenser board. Replaced the stripper and fill cup - turns out that the fill cup came with the locking tab broken off. The stripper had a missing paddle, and ice cubes would jam and shut down the ice maker periodically. Let the ice maker warm up after you remove it so the plastic is not so brittle. I replaced the supply line to the fridge - no change in taste. I replaced the MWF manifold and tubes, the water inlet valve and the water storage line. That did it, good tasting water again! I found that the Ice Maker in my GE side by side made ice but would not kick out the ice when it had formed, the heating element or the switch that controls it didn't work. Check compressor with my Hotwire kit I made when I worked for GE. When removing the compressor relay it broke in pieces. Ordered and replaced new relay, overload & run capacitor. Still did not work. Check if there’s power to compressor and found no voltage. Took control board out and found a component burnt. Ordered and replaced control board. Everything is back to normal. Love your service. Pulled down the existing drain tube and installed new one. Tight area so it requires two hands to push up and attach the new tube. Ordered replacement seals for both freezer and refrigerator sides. Followed directions that I had found on YouTube. The installation in a nut shell is warm the seals in a bathtub with very hot water for at least 2-3hrs then place the seals. Then warm the seals with a hair dryer as needed.
