Took off the freezer door, took off the top hinge on the refrigerator door, replaced the handle, re-installed the top hinge and the freezer door. After checking the suggested fixes and parts on Appliance Parts Pros, I ordered the defrost thermostat and evap motor for my refrigerator, a Kitchen Aid KSSC42QTS00. The Spring is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. It is a small but important internal part that applies pressure to dispense cubed or crushed ice from the refrigerator door. The spring is located within the ice dispenser mechanism and works with a lever to push ice out through the dispenser chute upon activation.

The problem was that the motor coupler & shaft had a tiny bit of rust at their union. With the weight of the ice bin it rusted in the lowest position. This didn't allow the motor coupler to float on the shaft. There is a spring inside the shaft that pushes up on the motor coupler keeping it engaged in the ice bin coupler above.
