I ordered the Maytag Latch-Door mechanism and was able to get a service manual from appliancepartspros.com. I followed instructions, disconnected power FIRST, and removed the inner door panel screws and the inner and outer doors came apart. I was then able to disconnect the power leads to the electronic latch door mechanism and remove the whole assembly. Took off the freezer door, took off the top hinge on the refrigerator door, replaced the handle, re-installed the top hinge and the freezer door. This is a two person job - one to remove the top hinge and replace the handle, while a second person holds the refrigerator door in place. Replacing the handle was easy. Just replaced the things. Had to reuse old tine rows, rollers, the spray arm, etc., i.e. I removed 'em from the old racks and put on the new ones, but that was piece of cake. Also, I cleaned the food grinder and the discharge valve compartment (thank you very ???? ???? much, Internet), so spray arms around the top rack get enough water pressure now. My dishwasher quit cleaning dishes and lost all pressure. The food screen would keep clogging up and I would have to take it out and clean it by hand. After putting a new impeller in, the "gears" on the impeller connected with the screen blades, the old impeller the "gears" were stripped off. The odor in the dishwasher was due to scum buildup in the walls, the racks, and in the lower part of the drain below the lower rotating arm. One of the valves in the vertical tube was stuck in the open position; since the valves cannot be replaced, the entire tube needed replacement. The check valve probably needed no replacement, but once I opened the bottom part, I decided to replace it anyway. She indicated that this would normally mean an issue with either the heating element, the high limit thermostat, or the control board. Ordered the parts and followed the instruction videos that Sears provide, Initially tried to order parts from Sears directly but the web-page kept complaining about my shipping address. Their loss- no wonder they're going out of business. Also, should note that the original assembly was plastic but the replacement was metal. Sure sign of a crappy cost-cutting decision. First tried replacing the seal around the door as that was the simple and most logical fix. Still leaked. Removed the front and upper panel to inspect. Found calcium deposit running down from under the Air Vent Assembly and wet behind the black stick-on insulation. Easy to trace the leak to the bottom of the door. => Ordered new Air Vent Assembly, gasket and Vent Deflector. Parts arrived. Took 5 minutes to remove upper panel.
