Saw some videos on the web about replacing the spring making sure I got the one with the right number of coils. After my layman's diagnosis (hope) of a bad micro switch to the ice dispenser (would not activate and dispense ice through the chute) I purchased the both the ice and water dispenser micro switches (kill two birds with one stone). Albeit the video attached to these parts may be helpful to some it was not applicable to my refrigerator, as you could not access it from the front by removing the exterior dispenser plate. Replaced both lower hinges and it did fix the problem. The only issue I had was when reinserting the water line. Because of the slight bend in the hose, it was catching at the end before exiting in the back. Hopefully I didn't tweak the line to cause any future issues. I did need pliers to pull one of the old hinges out. Read more
Freezer icing up or not defrosting? The defrost sensor monitors temperature during defrost cycles. DIY-friendly repair with basic tools in 30 minutes.
Replaced defrost sensor in freezer compartment, if you are handy this is a do it yourself job. The cover in the freezer section just pops out not tools needed. You will need a few small zip ties and some cutters to remove the old zip ties. Take a picture were the old sensor was before removing and reinstall in the same place. I used a meter to check continuity of the defrost element and found the element to be ok. I was quoted $85 to have someone come to the house just to check the unit and... Read more
Stores and supplies water to your refrigerator's dispenser and ice maker. Replace if cracked, leaking, or damaged from mineral buildup or freezing.
Replaced tank assembly. Actually I think the supply hose was originally not fully seated in the tank and I think I could have re-seated it deeper through the gray bushing. When I set the line into the new tank, still leaking. Pulled out supply line and reset using a little more force and line went into the tank. Took the bushing clip off the other tank and used it for the supply line bushing. So far, no leaks. The thing to remember is to push the edges of each hose bushing inward to pull... Read more
Fix no water or ice, leaking valve, or slow water flow from your dispenser. This refrigerator water inlet valve is a straightforward DIY repair.
First I replaced the filter thinking it was the problem, but that was not the case. Next was replace water supply valve at the back of the refrigerator. It was very easy. The only thing that was in question was how to get the refrigerator side line off of the existing valve. There is a plastic slide clip that you remove and pull the line out and press the line back into the port it came out of. It was a very simple project and took about 20 minutes. Read more
