Fix standing water in your dishwasher bottom with a check valve replacement. Prevents backflow and improves cleaning. DIY repair in 30-60 minutes.
The odor in the dishwasher was due to scum buildup in the walls, the racks, and in the lower part of the drain below the lower rotating arm. One of the valves in the vertical tube was stuck in the open position; since the valves cannot be replaced, the entire tube needed replacement. The check valve probably needed no replacement, but once I opened the bottom part, I decided to replace it anyway. Ordered the parts and followed the instruction videos that Sears provide, Initially tried to order parts from Sears directly but the web-page kept complaining about my shipping address. Replaces cracked, mineral-clogged, or punctured feed tube that routes water from lower manifold to upper spray arm. Includes rubber grommets and fittings.
I replaced the rear tube that feeds water to the top and middle spinners, and this appears to have fixed the problem. The middle spinner, which is attached to the bottom of the top rack, has a tube that connects to a hole in the middle of the rear tube. This hole has a rubber flap and I noticed that this flap was wide open. The tube under the tray has a straight edge protruding from it at the back. This edge pushes the flap open and I suspect that when the water is flowing, this edge rotates... Read more
