The Coupling is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool French door bottom-mount refrigerators equipped with an interior automatic icemaker. As an internal part, this coupling connects the auger motor to the ice mold assembly, allowing the motor to transmit rotational force during the ice harvest cycle.
Causes of a damaged coupling can include regular wear from years of exposure to changing temperatures inside the refrigerator. Mineral deposits accumulating on surfaces over many harvest seasons have the potential to deteriorate plastic material. Physical obstructions lodged in the icemaker mechanism could potentially bend or crack the coupling.

The problem was that the motor coupler & shaft had a tiny bit of rust at their union. With the weight of the ice bin it rusted in the lowest position. This didn't allow the motor coupler to float on the shaft. There is a spring inside the shaft that pushes up on the motor coupler keeping it engaged in the ice bin coupler above. Remove and replaced the auger motor, shaft seal, and the chute seal. No problem. However, the causing failure was to broken wire on the bottom of the freezer door. Loom and blue wire were cut, due to being pinched. I had current to start with and the auger worked three times then quit. That's when I really had to start searching . Fun. Read more
