Refrigerator not cooling or compressor overheating? The condenser fan motor circulates air through coils to dissipate heat. DIY repair in under 30 minutes.
I googled the issue and read several articles. Most started with cleaning the coils (which mine are on the bottom) (19yr old Kenmore 363.9557812). I had not really ever cleaned them well, vacuuming did little. I had to remove the cardboard cover off the back of the frig, and blew them clean (front to back). Freezer not cooling or making buzzing noise? The evaporator fan blade circulates cold air. Easy DIY fix in under 5 minutes—simply pull off and press on.
I used a set of ring pliers to remove the old retaining ring, then spread the plastic ribs around the fan motor shaft with a small flat bladed screwdriver to ease removal of the old fan blade. I reversed the process to replace the blade, gently tapping a socket from my socket wrench set placed over the motor shaft and ribs with a small rubber mallet. Rubber grommet seals the ice maker fill tube where it enters the refrigerator cabinet. Replace if cracked, brittle, leaking, or missing to restore seal.
Replaced original (18 yrs.) 1/4" plastic tubing, clamp and grommet (AppliancePartsPros/GE parts) from outlet of ice maker water control valve to ice maker inlet. Also replaced water supply line to inlet of water control valve with new, GE braided, PEX 1/4" supply line with pre-attached female compression fittings on both ends. Ice buildup in freezer? This defrost heater and thermostat assembly melts frost from evaporator coils. Moderate DIY repair restores proper cooling.

This armature kit is the moving plunger and linkage operated by the dispenser solenoid. It opens and closes the ice chute door during dispensing and helps it seal when idle to reduce frost and warm-air leaks.

The recess door retainer secures the dispenser's ice chute flapper in the refrigerator door. Replacing a cracked or missing retainer restores proper flapper pivot and sealing to help reduce frost buildup and air leaks around the dispenser.
I replaced the solenoid, door, spring and bucket. The bucket cracked from ice freezing inside it. Ice froze inside the bucket because the solenoid stopped pulling the door closed which allowed hot humid air into the freezer. While I was in there I replaced the dispenser door, spring and crank because they are cheap and the old ones were moldy. The mold is most likely from the door not closing and causing condensation on the parts as well. Read more

I ordered a new solenoid and when it arrived, I installed it as follows: I cut the power to the refrigerator. I then pulled off the rubber boot (and it's plastic frame) that covers the water switch. Then I removed the bezel that covers the front of the ice maker controls by pulling it straight out. Then I removed the four screws found on the assembly under the bezel. This replacement motor powers the dispenser's auger/crusher mechanism to move ice from the bucket to the chute. Replacing a weak or seized motor helps restore reliable cube or crushed-ice dispensing from the freezer door.

Supplies electrical power from wall outlet to refrigerator. Replace this cord if cut, frayed, overheated, or damaged to restore safe electrical connection.
Spliced new and old power cord near the connections in the fridge and connected them. Didn't mess with the factory harnesses or connections inside actual fridge. Read more
