I emptied door shelves and used plastic sheet to close off refrigerator. The repair was done with refrigerator running. I removed door and changed riser cam and shim. Then replaced door. It took maybe 45 minutes from start to finish. If I did the job again it would be completed in 30 minutes or less. The videos are informative. Thank You Read more

Ok so my mom called GE and a service man came out. He said no good. The refrigerator was to old to be fixed. You will have to buy a new one .. ok so with that said he collected his $100 dollars service fee !!! I slid the refer out and started tinkering with it. This was a very easy repair, the on-line video at AppliancePartsPros.com was helpful. The Helix was spinning freely (meaning, the Auger Blade was not holding it in place on the Auger). Pulling the assembly apart was a snap, and very logical (the video is perfect if you get lost). The family is now enjoying both crushed and cubed ice - and the redesign of the Auger Blade seems to prevent clogging in the ice shoot. Read more
Compressor would not stay on for long, even though temperature control set to lowest. Compressor sounded like it was running smoothly when it does run. Changed 3 parts: capacitor, overload, and relay. Runs like a charm now! Read more

I took off the cover on the back of the fridge. Then took the small cover off the side of the compressor. Pulled off the relay and shook it and you could hear parts rattling inside. Ordered a repalcement and it's been working since. Read more
