Temperature Sensor (Thermistor Assembly)
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WR23X10582

This temperature sensor monitors internal refrigerator temperatures and relays them to the control, helping the unit maintain consistent cooling. Replacing a failed sensor restores accurate temperature regulation and more reliable operation. What it does:

  • Measures compartment or evaporator temperature and sends a resistance signal to the control board
  • Helps the control modulate compressor and fan run times for proper cooling
  • Typical failure signs: sections too warm or too cold, erratic temperatures, or running longer than normal
  • Causes inaccurate temperature readings compared to setpoints
What's included:
  • 1 temperature sensor assembly
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power before servicing
  • Access the sensor in the affected section; release any cover/clip and unplug the connector
  • Route the new sensor's wiring like the original and ensure it's fully seated in its holder or clip
  • Restore power and allow up to 24 hours for temperatures to stabilize

What's included: 1 thermistor Install notes:
  • Disconnect power and, for gas models, shut off the gas supply before servicing
  • Access the sensor on the blower housing or exhaust duct; location varies by model

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The refrig was too warm   Michael F. • Belvidere , IL • September 02, 2016

When I looked on the Appliance Parts Pro website it said the usual fix for a refrig that is not cooling is to replace the defrost thermostat in the freezer. I didn't see how that would keep the refrig from cooling but I figured I would try it. Got the part yesterday ( two days shipping which was great!). I took the panel off the back of the freezer and the coils were all covered in solid ice! it took me an hour with a heat gun to melt the ice. I changed the defrost thermostat and now the... For an emergency fix I installed a 3 in1 kit disabling the original start cap and wiring in the original run cap to the run winding. The original PTC had pins 1,2 and 3, the replacement had 2,3 and 4. Only wiring change was to install the red wire from pin 1 on the original PTC to pin 4 on the new PTC. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The refrigerator section was freezing food   Andrew B. • Rolling Prairie , IN • January 08, 2016

After reading stories on this website I decided the problem was probably the control board. I ordered the sensors also just in case. The display has been dim for awhile so I got that also. I replaced the board and the display in less than an hour. It is working perfectly now so I never installed the sensors. I believe the board was ruined by a recent power outage. The power flickered several times before it went out, I don't think the board could handle the fluctuations. This will be my go to... Read more
