Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Microwave would power on, but no heat.   Mike P. • Monument , CO • April 29, 2022

I took the advice of another buyer and replaced the magnetron, capacitor, and diode from my microwave (make sure you discharge the capacitor). It was not a problem at all to do, I did find an excellent video on YouTube on how to test all of these components and almost anything else in a microwave. It’s called Microwave Oven Troubleshooting in Minutes- Step by Step by electronicsNmore. It was the best thing I watched. Turns out my magnetron was the only thing that was bad and it’s the most... Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You 21 month old Frigidaire upright freezer died.   John P. • Enola , PA • August 02, 2019

Noticed Rolls on the top shelf no longer frozen, though the meat around it still was. Note: This is a good test, keep something that thaws quickly and is not expensive on top shelf, to act as a barometer for your freezer health! I first found a trip online to advance the defrost timer, as a failed timer is a common issue. I advanced the timer, but nothing happened. I emptied the freezer, then removed the thermostat and tested it. No continuity! With the Freezer continuing to thaw, I... Read more

Fix a washer that won't spin or agitate. This motor capacitor stores energy to start and run the motor. DIY repair takes about 10 minutes with video help.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Hotpoint vlsr1090g5ww wouldn't agitate or spin.   Chuck G. • Douglas , MI • October 03, 2022

Washer would run through the cycle, but not agitate. I had to wait for it to pump down the water level to check spin, which also was not working. The motor would buzz when it should run, but not rotate, hard to hear for spin because the pump was running. Found I could start it by hand very easily by giving the pulley a spin, so I figured start switch, but there didn't appear to be one. I found what looked like a start capacitor zip tied to the chassis midway up the front, so my second guess was... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The refrigerator / freezer not cooling.   Jeffrey S. • Stanfordville , NY • October 03, 2022

This KitchenAid Refrigerator was put into service in 2007. I thought it died 5 years ago when all it needed was a couple of days to defrost some ice build up in the walls between the freezer and refrigerator sections. At that time we bought a smaller new backup refrigerator thinking we'd also be needing a new main refrigerator, but it was really fine after the thaw out. So we kept it! Then, the other day, it just stopped cooling. I noticed food starting to get soft in the freezer, but the... Read more

First I have an LG French Door with a bottom freezer. It quit cooling. I went on line and watched some very informative You Tube videos. I trouble shot according to these videos. In these videos it shows that if there is a click coming off the compressor it has too meanings, the compressor is froze or the start relay is bad. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Kenmore washer melting plastic smell   Keith M. • Bartlett , TN • April 22, 2014

My Mom's Kenmore had a burnt plastic smell after a thunderstorm. Found motor capacitor had melted through, dumping liquid platic "spaghetti" onto the insulation blanket under the washer. All other compents looked fine. Told her not to use it until I replaced capacitor. The washer is 4 yrs old but the new capacitor revision was 3 letters higher, so they've made some design changes. Externally it looks the same. There is a large number on the capacitor, but the part is ordered by the much... Read more

I went to appliancepartspros.com and described the symptoms which led to replacing the capacitor. The part arrived the next day!!! Unfortunately the clicking and warmness remained. I went to the online chat and Mandie recommended the relay which was next in the chain before the dreaded compressor. Once again the part arrived the next morning! We isolated a burning smell in our kitchen to our refrigerator, GE Profile PSS23MGTCCC which we purchased in November of 2006. This occurred at 3AM on 29 January 2015 and I am thankful that my wife got me up to investigate this odor. I unplugged the refrigerator. I plugged the refrigerator back in at 6AM thinking it had time to cool. The burning smell happened immediately and I unplugged the refrigerator again right away. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Lg refrigerator compressor would intermittantly hum and shut down but then start normally minutes later   Don C. • Pearland , TX • July 23, 2016

After watching repair videos, I decided I could order the parts needed and do it myself for less than a service call, not to mention the additional cost for parts markup and installation that a service technician would charge. I am very pleased that I did. I ordered the start relay, overload and capacitor with some help from Ilya at customer service to make sure I was getting the correct replacements. Installation was easy. The hardest thing was contorting my body into a position where I could... Read more
