After reading the reviews of others, I ordered and replaced the heating element, thermostat, cut-off & the moisture sensor bars. It was a success! The element was definitely bad on one end, the wire was burnt in two pieces. Now it doesn't take 3 hours to dry a load! Well worth the money I spent. Easy to fix & do it yourself. I watched the video before buying the parts just to make sure that it was something I wanted to tackle. Very easy with the video. Great job Appliance Pro's! Read more

Recommendations have fun and a bucket to prevent losing parts. First watch the videos, practice disassemble and reassemble the dryer drum. Make certain you have a good screw driver and spatula from kitchen (could not find my putty knife). In the middle of Christmas baking, I noticed that it was taking a really long time to bake bread. Since I had already done 5 batches and the timing was always the same, I knew when I had to add 20 min, something was wrong. Toughest part of this repair is figuring out how to get things apart. Amana doesn't provide you a repair manual showing how to disengage the various plastic covers. Initially disassembled the bottom freezer compartment so I could get to the evaporator coils; they were completely frozen in block of ice, restricting air flow to the fridge above. I watched the Appliance Parts Pro video and saw that it was a job that I could easily do. I ordered the Rotor Position sensor switch for about $21 on a Monday and it was delivered by UPS on Wednesday. The process was straight forward: 1) remove the back cover from the washing machine (4 screws), 2) remove the main bolt holding the magnetic drum on the motor; 3) remove the 6 bolts holding the coil on the motor; 4) remove the ground screw and wire harness clamp screw; 5) take the old sensor... First ran the built-in diagnostic tests. Got error code indicating that the inlet thermistor was open. Removed lower access panel and did continuity checks on the inlet thermistor, thermal cutoff and heating element. Even doing these checks is very difficult on this model due to the location of these parts and the limited access through the so-called access panel. I think I have a lemon of a dryer. I keep having to pay someone to replace my heating element about every year. So I already had the heating element, but I thought I would replace the thermostat and the limiter also. Yes, I am a 46 year old mom, and I replaced all three items. Thank goodness to youtube! Ha! Spoke to a parts pro and told them of the problem. there were 2 possibilieies from the explanation of what the parts do. onw could have been the Range oven igniter. that wasn't it beaacause the over was lighting fine. by process of illimination it was the Oven Sensor Assembly. Read more

Checked and cleaned vent which was in need of cleaning, but not too bad (I do not consider this a primary causal detail, but can be a problem, so clean yours). Replaced Hi-Limit Thermostat (safety thermostat) after confirming the circuit was open with ohm meter.
