Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Refrigerator not cooling and clicking sound every 25 minutes, had same problem on another refrigerator several years back so knew it was the start relay   James G. • Huntington Beach , CA • September 06, 2021

Pulled the relay off of the condenser motor (3 pin connection) and removed 2 wire feeds. Reversed the procedure for the install. Ordered the new relay and decided to replace the run capacitor as well just to be safe. Appliance Parts Pros was a really good website to help identify the 2 part numbers and see pictures that confirmed they were the same as the original. Price was competitive with others. Read more

Capacitor (Compressor Start)
Genuine Frigidaire part
By: Frigidaire
Part Number: 5304467671

Compressor start capacitor that helps the refrigerator compressor start reliably so the appliance can maintain proper cooling. Replace a weak or failed capacitor to reduce hard-starting, excessive humming, or loss of cooling. What it does:

  • Provides the starting boost the compressor needs to reach running speed.
  • Commonly linked to symptoms like compressor humming but not starting, warm refrigerator, or frequent on/off cycling.
  • Works with the compressor start circuit; a failed capacitor can prevent the compressor from starting.
  • Visible damage, leakage, or failed electrical tests indicate replacement is needed.

Microwave High Voltage Capacitor
Genuine Samsung part
By: Samsung
Part Number: 2501-001011

Microwave stopped heating or makes humming noise before shutting off? The high voltage capacitor often fails first. DIY repair in under 30 minutes.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Microwave blowing fuse for Magnetron / high voltage circuit (humming noise prior to fuse opening).   Keith G. • Houston , TX • April 27, 2020

Main Fuse did not open, only fuse for high voltage section was opened. Prior to the fuse blowing a louder than normal hum was heard from microwave for 1-2 seconds prior. Easy fix is the high voltage capacitor, so first checked the voltage across the capacitor terminals to ensure capacitor was discharged. Typically should be reasonably discharged within 30sec-1min assuming drain resistor is still in place. Removed the high voltage cap, and checked the capacitance and did not get a reading.... Run Capacitor (Refrigerator Compressor)
Genuine Frigidaire part
By: Frigidaire
Part Number: 297286810

This run capacitor helps the refrigerator compressor start and run smoothly, restoring normal operation when a weak or failed capacitor causes the compressor to struggle. Replacing a faulty capacitor can reduce humming and improve cooling performance. What it does:

  • Provides continuous phase-shift to the compressor motor for stable running.
  • Helps maintain proper compressor speed and efficiency during operation.
  • Commonly replaced when the compressor hums, won't stay running, or cooling is inconsistent.
  • Reduces risk of repeated motor cycling caused by a weak or open capacitor.
What's included: One run capacitor. Install notes:
  • Always disconnect power to the appliance before accessing electrical components.
  • Discharge the capacitor before handling; capacitors can hold a charge even when powered off.
  • Observe terminal orientation and mounting location; replace with the same type and ratings.

Refrigerator won't start or stops running? A failed capacitor disrupts motor circuits. This film radial capacitor restores voltage stability and operation.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Lg refrigerator wound not start   Steve S. • Peoria , AZ • May 28, 2016

For an emergency fix I installed a 3 in1 kit disabling the original start cap and wiring in the original run cap to the run winding. Ordered the proper PTC and overload from Appliance Parts Pros and installed them 2 weeks later. The original start and run capacitor were good, rewired back to design specs. The original PTC had pins 1,2 and 3, the replacement had 2,3 and 4. Only wiring change was to install the red wire from pin 1 on the original PTC to pin 4 on the new PTC. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Blower fan would not reliably come on compressor worked ok   Steve P. • Indianapolis , IN • September 02, 2014

Air circulation (blower) fan would not come on reliably. Had a hard time getting up to speed and sometimes would not even run. This capacitor fixed that problem, fan comes on quickly like it was when new. This is a 25,000 BTU room air conditioner, I didn't want to replace it with another one for about $700 especially since it is only 3 years old. I spent under $40 to fix it. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The washer filled and agitated but it would not empty and spin   Jeffrey W. • Daufuskie Island , SC • August 07, 2015

I took the front panel off and exposed the mechanism. Inside the shield is a capacitor, so I guessed that the capacitor was bad. I ordered a new shield which contains a new capacitor, installed it, and the washer now works normally again. At first the pump motor made a few clicks before it started running, so I believe the drain pump had an obstruction of some kind inside it, like a bolus of sand, that caused the motor to seize temporarily and burned out the capacitor. It's possible the... Read more
