After 22 years my Kenmore (Whirlpool) dryer stopped getting hot. So I went ahead and reviewed the videos and figured I could repair it myself. I'm starting with a quick background on my dryer. About 18 months ago the belt on the dryer started slipping and squealing. I had a can of belt dressing spray so I popped the top open and sprayed the belt. It actually worked for about a year before it started squealing again. I bought the new arm assembly because after a few times of going in through the front of the machine and reaching in the back under the drum I could get to the pulley, so I took it off of the arm and lubed it and then replaced it back inside, put the belt back on and it was good for a week or so , then started squeaking again. I used Fixya as an initial source describing my problem. I got two responses which were very helpful. One that the "coils" were probably the problem. Two, that the problem could be the thermostat or a thermistor in the dryer. I verified that AC was coming from the timing control, that both the two terminal and three terminal coils,the igniter and shut off thermostat all had continuity. It was the day of my birthday June 6th when my wife came to me to tell me that the dryer was not working. Immediately I started to look for a new dryer from Best Buy and the rest. Then I said It would be better if I waited for 4th of July at which time I could find a better deal. This is when I decided to take it apart to see what was wrong. I watched videos on the disassembly of my dryer model, and got the model number hiding on the upper dryer door jamb. After calling AppliancePartsPros.com for help, then ordered parts with the help of APP. It took almost a full day to disassemble the dryer I have, as it is a little more complicated than some models, and I went very slowly on purpose to not lose screws, or break plastic parts. Maytag Gas Dryer Model: MGDE300VW1 I had previous experience with repairing my dryers, but this was a first for this model. Instructional videos very helpful. Ordered necessary parts and they were delivered with-in two days. Wow! Squeak found to be coming from idler pulley roller which no longer turned freely . I did a little research and found out that the dryer drum rollers needed to be replaced. I decided that since I would be replacing the 4 drum rollers that I should replace the belt and the belt drive pulley. This was a simple project thanks to YouTube. I replaced the "heating element" which was bad.........as well as the "Thermst-fix" and "Thermal Cutoff" which are located on the side of the element mounting location while I had the dyer all opened up and the element mounting tube removed.......I also replaced the Dryer Thermister which is located on the top of the blower fan.....To get to these parts, you must open the top of the dryer which has spring latches on both sides of the front corners... they need to be pressed in (use a putty... I wanted to avoid pulling the drum. Luckily, my blower was easily accessed by pulling the front bottom panel. A couple of sheet metal screws were all I needed to remove the fan housing cover. I knew the fan was on reverse threads, i.e. righty-untighty. As it spins it tightens so no need for a retaining nut. I took off a screw holding on the exhaust tube and wiggled it out.
