The problem is a finicky ignition system, Direct Spark Ignition. Apparently Whirlpool redesigned the igniter/burner assembly slightly to make it more reliable. The repair is very easy. Turn off power, but you don't need to turn off gas. Remove oven bottom and flame spreader, then remove burner/igniter assembly, one screw at front, one at back. It was a simple process to enter the model number of our glass cook top stove; learn the part number required and order. It arrived in 2-days -- least expensive shipping method. The cooktop was removed with a Phillips-head screwdriver by 4 small sheet metal screws on the right and left side of the oven. The oven's power to the cooktop was easily disconnected via two "clips" and one ground. Would have cost way more with an appliance repair shop and it's an easy do-it-yourself repair. Read more

I first DISCONNECTED POWER FROM THE RANGE using the breaker. I then pulled the range out from the wall to give myself plenty of working room. I lifted the range top up as when you clean under the burners. I then moved the ends of the bottom of the slide rods that lock the range top open back where they came loose from the top of the range. My stove is probably 15 years old and when I was removing the screws that hold the burner in place on top of the stove top, both of them broke off so I had to replace the entire assembly. APP had all the parts I needed and were helpful on the phone. Replaced the burner Infinite switches for the burners having the issue. Here are the latest part numbers for this model Maytag. Left rear (LR) and right rear (RR) burners are both 6" and use the same switch. Part # WP3149404. Left front (LF) is an 11 1/2" burner Part# W10167742. I knew for sure that the hinge with the large spring was damaged, but elected to replace both hinges and receivers. Replacing the parts was fairly easy and would have taken me less then an hour. This model has thin metal covers over the hinge assemblies. I found that squeezing in the sides of the covers help to hold them in place on the hinge while reassembling the door. Like a boss! Seriously, removed oven from wall (2 screws), removed about 15 sheet metal screws from front and top covers, unplugged wire harnesses one (or a few) at a time. Reassembled. Hint. Take a picture of wiring before removing and mark old parts (especially thermal fuse) with sharpie before removing so you don't get confused.
