This is a genuine OEM replacement oil pump assembly found in many chainsaws to lubricate the saw bar and chain. This lubrication keeps the chain moving freely around the saw. Without lubrication, the chain would drag and hesitate when cutting, creating a potentially dangerous situation. Smoke or an overheating chainsaw are good indicators that there may be a problem with lubrication. Check to see if the oil is reaching the chain by turning on the saw and pressing the throttle all the way down, then moving close to a piece of wood. As the blade gets close to the wood, oil spatter should be evident. If not, there is most likely a problem with the oil pump assembly.Allow the chainsaw to cool before attempting repairs. Wear gloves to protect hands from the blade. Remove the spark plug as an added safety precaution. Using the machine's manual diagram, remove the casing cover and find the oil pump assembly. Remove the oil lines leading to the oil pump before removing the pump. Remove the oil pump and install the new one. Reinstall the oil lines. Reinstall the spark plug. This is a heavy-duty metal part that is sold as an individual unit. It is compatible with chainsaws manufactured by Husqvarna, Poulan, and Craftsman.
