How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6013694 / WP9704230 Blender Drive Coupler

Following the simple instructions posted on the AppliancePartsPros.com website and the instructions provided. 

First, I watched the video provided by AppliancePartsPros.com. It was incredibly helpful to know that it’s a left handed thread. I took a flat head screwdriver and stuck it all the way through the bottom of the blender and into the cooling blades of the motor. Doing this, I was able to grasp the Coupler with my hand and, turn it to get it loose. Then it just spun right off. I replaced the new part and tightened it with the screwdriver still in place. The whole process took 45 seconds and most of that time was spent looking for a screwdriver. 

My Kitchenaid blender would no longer work because the fins on my coupler (because of age) had broken and crumbled to pieces. I read the instructions that came with the replacement part and watched the video supplied by AppliancePartsPros.com before attempting the repair. Using the recommended screwdriver method, I struggled with prying the old coupler off. As bits and pieces of rubber on the coupler gave way, the metal part didn't budge. I also want to remind everyone that your motion of prying with that screwdriver is always in upward motion, not downward. As you are prying, your screwdriver is to be lifted UP. Otherwise you will mar your blender. Yes, my blender is very old and I don't know if they made the couplers extra strong/thick/indestructible or WHAT back then! But the metal part would not even budge, no matter how much I pried on it. I pulled out a pair of pliers (protecting the blender with a dish towel) and started prying it with that. Finally it started bending and with a lot of repeated effort I finally got it off. Certainly well worth it, because my blender works again!! 

Purchased a replacement coupler and followed the directions to take the old one off with a screwdriver. Then the new one went right on. 

The part arrived at my door in Denver about 24 hours after ordering. I pried the old coupler off the shaft with a screwdriver. Cleaned the aluminum fragments from the threads, screwed on the new coupler -- that was it. Easy. 

Ordered the new part, took off the old one easily after watching the video, & installed the new part. 

Placing a screwdriver under the coupler and prying upward every quarter way around I was able to pry off the coupler. Replaced with new coupler by hand turning anti clockwise.. 

By replacing the damaged Drive Coupler with a new one. 

I looked for the part both at AppliancePartsPros.com and a local parts place. I ordered from AppliancePartsPros.com because the total price was cheaper. The included instructions allowed me to replace the part in 5 minutes flat, with just a screwdriver. 

Pried off remaining aluminum disk and cleaned off the shaft's left hand treads. Fully screwed on the new drive coupler, not tight, mounted pitcher and turned on blender to snug down the coupler.
