Dishwasher wasn't cleaning well spots and food still attached kind of problems Terry B. • Sacramento , CA • January 31, 2017
My daughter and I went to Youtube and found an extremely well presented video on how to clean our exact make and model of dishwasher. We live in a newly rented house, new to us, not new. The dishwasher was an unholy nightmare of filth, clogged filters, calcium deposits coating and blocking in literal heaps, discovered when taken apart. The miracle really was that the dishwasher cleaned at all. We cleaned and scraped everything thoroughly, the fine filter and the sump filter as well but decided...

The Filter Ball is an OEM replacement part for GE dishwashers. As a key internal filtration component, it helps trap and remove food soils and other residue from washing water to maintain hygienic cleanliness standards.
Causes of a bad filter ball can include worn filter mesh that no longer adequately strains soils or substances that pass through more readily over time.
Symptoms of a bad filter ball include:
- Dirty wash water that fails to fully sanitize dishes
- Cloudy rinse water that leaves behind streaks and residue
- Excess food debris collecting in drainage areas
This GE replacement filter ball is also compatible with some Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore dishwashers.

Fine filter was 80% clogged and needed replaced John M. • Millstadt , IL • February 17, 2019
Filter replacement is easy. CAUTION. When removing the wand that is immediately above this filter you must reach around the back base and feel for a tab sticking out. Pull on it and lift the wand up. If not you may break the tab off which is a retainer needed for the center wand that supplies water to the upper rack. This would have been a 15 minute job but I broke the tab off I mentioned earlier. I ended up adding a stainless steel screw through the base just above a flange that rises when the...
