Oven won't heat or takes forever to ignite? This igniter creates the spark to light your gas oven. DIY-friendly repair, typically 30-40 minutes.
My Kenmore 790.74139310 gas range was taking over 30 minutes to reach 350F. It used to take a little less than 10 minutes. The problem was the ignitor for the lower gas burner. It would glow but not pass sufficient current to increase the gas flow to the lower burner. Once at temperature, there is of course loss of heat when loading the oven with room temperature food. This took too long to recover, so we did not have proper temperature for proper cooking for the first 30 to 40 minutes. Food... Read more

Oven won't heat or smells like gas? This igniter is often the cause. Sparks the gas burner to start heating. DIY repair takes 10-30 minutes with basic tools.
There are hex screws keeping the igniter in place. I think they were 5/16...so you have to have a socket wrench. The space is kind of tight, and it's all on the right side, so if you're left handed (like I am) it's going to be a challenge to get the hex screws out without dropping them. Dropping them isn't too bad if they don't fall into the hole the gas pipe is coming through. Unfortunately one of them fell in there, and there's no getting it out of there. I had a machine screw that fit, so I... Read more

Of course, before disassembling anything, I unplugged and turned off the gas supply. To replace the spark electrode, I removed the drip pan/surface to gain access to the burner assemblies. Next, I unscrewed (with a 1/2" open-end wrench, I think) and disconnected the gas supply tubing from the burner assembly with the cracked electrode, and then unscrewed the assembly itself from the base surface. With the assembly detached, I flipped it over and removed the screw that secured the cracked... Read more
