Inglis Washer Agitator Dogs
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: 80040

The Washer Agitator Dog set is a set of 4 OEM replacement parts for Whirlpool and Kenmore washing machines, designed to engage the agitator, allowing it to move in one direction and lock in the opposite direction. The agitator dogs also come available in the agitator repair kit WP8537433. Check your model number for compatibility.

Symptoms of failing Agitator Dogs include:

  • The agitator not moving
  • Only moving in one direction
  • Clothes not getting cleaned due to lack of agitation
  • Clothes becoming tangled

Causes of bad Agitator Dogs can range from normal wear and tear, which gradually erodes their teeth, making them too smooth to engage the agitator properly, to overloading the washing machine, which puts extra stress on the agitator and accelerates the wear of the dogs.

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

This part fixes the following symptoms
  • Will not agitate

I had previously replaced the pump about 1 year ago. That was not the problem. Still leaked the same way - intermittently, but always in the center of the washer onto the floor. None of the hoses were leaking - no evidence of corrosion or water mineral residue at any of the hose fittings. So, it must have been something else. I studied the parts diagram for the washer tub assembly and concluded the source of the leak almost had to be the outer tub's Centerpost Gasket. It was really the... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Whirlpool LSQ8000 clothes mover (upper agitator) not working correctly   Tom L. • Minneapolis , MN • March 10, 2018

I had replaced the Agitator cams a couple of times already due to my brother-in-law overloading the machine which stripped the teeth off of the cams. I also noticed the agitator seemed to 'wobble' and made 'knocking' noises quite a bit. I reviewed the video on the Appliance Parts Pros web site, disassembled the agitator and cleaned everything up, which helped a little, but not enough. Figuring the agitator itself was worn out also, I looked up and ordered all the parts for the upper agitator on... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Initial problem was the washer stopped operating and a nasty grinding noise was coming from the motor/transmission area   Robert S. • Voorheesville , NY • March 03, 2017

Pulled the washer apart (using your videos as a refresher) and found that the plastic coupling between the motor and the transmission had failed. Searched for parts vendors and found your site. Ordered the coupling on-line and went back down to clean up the machine. In the cleaning process I found a damaged thrust washer for the upper agitator and broken drive dogs for that same agitator. I went to the website to see if I could augment my initial order. I did not want to pay shipping costs... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Agitator was spinning freely and not working.   Darren M. • South Bend , IN • August 15, 2019

Replaced agitator and washplate bolt and washer. Normally this would have been a 5 min job, however the bolt wouldn't come loose. The teeth on the agitator were worn down and the shaft the bolt screws into would turn with the bolt when trying to loosen it. I had to cut out the agitator using a dremel and hold the shaft in place with a vise grip in order to unscrew the bolt. Once the bolt was out I used WD-40 to help get the agitator off the gears. Job took much longer than normal, but I... Read more
