Refridgerator stopped cooling Gary S. • Madison , WI • April 13, 2015
Replaced the Thermistor Assembly and also picked up Overload Protection circuit per the comments posted by the "experts" on the web site. Both parts cheap enough. I ordered parts at 3:30 in the afternoon and they showed up the next morning from half way across the country. Outstanding service. It also fixed the 9 year old refrigerator. Replacing the parts took about a half hour most of which was moving the unit from the wall and removing the panel to get at the parts.

The Compressor Overload Protector is an OEM replacement part for LG refrigerators. It plays an important safety role in protecting the compressor from damage due to excessive heat. Located near the compressor unit, the overload protector functions to shut off power to the compressor if temperatures become too high during operation.
Causes can include normal wear over time rendering it less responsive to temperature changes. Mineral or refrigerant deposits may also impede its ability to detect overheating conditions accurately.
Symptoms of a faulty overload protector include:
- Refrigerator fails to properly cool or the compressor does not run
- Circuit board or electrical component failure or burnout
- Lack of cold air production and higher than normal freezer/fridge temperatures
This OEM LG part is also compatible with some Sears/Kenmore models.

Not cooling Paul B. • Frederick , MD • January 15, 2017
8 y/o LG unit was not cooling or freezing. There was a clicking on the back side every 2-3 minutes. Used these 2 issues in a internet search and top 2 cited problems were dirty coils then bad PTC & OLP. Tool off the back panel, compressor was quie hot. Coils did not look excessively dirty but cleaned them anyway. DId not resolve the problem. The OLP & PTC recommended for my unit. were different than the original TSD and I thought I would have to return the parts. However, I got on a chat...

This overload protector is a safety device that helps prevent compressor damage by stopping electrical current during overheating or locked-rotor conditions. It's a direct-fit replacement that restores proper compressor protection and helps keep the appliance running safely. What it does:
- Protects the compressor by interrupting power if the motor overheats or experiences an electrical fault
- Common symptom: refrigerator runs but compressor won't start or only hums
- Common symptom: fridge cycles frequently or doesn't maintain temperature due to compressor protection tripping
- Works with the start device to help ensure reliable compressor startup
What's included: One overload protector as pictured Install notes:
- Disconnect power before servicing; work only with the appliance unplugged
- Access typically requires removing the rear access panel to reach the compressor area
- Replace using the same mounting and terminal connections; ensure secure electrical connections

Lg refrigerator compressor would intermittantly hum and shut down but then start normally minutes later Don C. • Pearland , TX • July 23, 2016
After watching repair videos, I decided I could order the parts needed and do it myself for less than a service call, not to mention the additional cost for parts markup and installation that a service technician would charge. I am very pleased that I did. I ordered the start relay, overload and capacitor with some help from Ilya at customer service to make sure I was getting the correct replacements. Installation was easy. The hardest thing was contorting my body into a position where I could...
