Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ice maker stopped making ice.   Steve C. • Dripping Springs , TX • September 30, 2019

Well, I got online and found several YouTube videos on how to check what was happening. I have a multimeter and tools. I first replaced the external water filter just to make sure it wasn't that, and it needed it. That wasn't the problem. I then removed the water inlet valve which was really easy. I didn't disconnect the water lines but I did unplug the power plug. Using the ohms setting on the meter, I tested the coil of the valve solenoid. It wasn't open. I checked the voltage at the plug... Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Not cooling properly eventually evaporator fan failure   Richard D. • Wood Ridge , NJ • April 25, 2016

My problem first showed up as varying temperature in both sections of my old mid 1970’s Frigidaire model FPCI-170T-7 refrigerator, which is not listed on most appliance repair databases. Running on the warm side from time to time, as well as sudden fan noise (probably the fan blade hitting ice build-up on the evaporator coil) alerted me to a possible defrost system problem, since the compressor was cooling. The evaporator fan eventually failed after a day or so, and a major repair was... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You 21 month old Frigidaire upright freezer died.   John P. • Enola , PA • August 02, 2019

Noticed Rolls on the top shelf no longer frozen, though the meat around it still was. Note: This is a good test, keep something that thaws quickly and is not expensive on top shelf, to act as a barometer for your freezer health! I first found a trip online to advance the defrost timer, as a failed timer is a common issue. I advanced the timer, but nothing happened. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ice maker quit making ice was not getting water   James M. • Natchitoches , LA • July 26, 2015

This was one of the easiest appliance repairs that I have ever done. I simply moved the refrigerator out of the cubby hole in which it resides, turned off the water supply at the wall, unplugged the electric cord, loosened the water supply line at the valve (had a water absorbent rag and small plastic bowl to catch what drained from the line), place it in the bowl and moved it aside. The valve was easily accessible and two screws detached it from the edge of the refrigerator box. Once loose, I... Read more
