Refrigerator Ice Maker Drive Coupling
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP2220458

Fix ice not dispensing or auger not turning issues. This coupler connects the motor to the ice bin auger. DIY-friendly repair, about 20 minutes.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ice dispenser was skipping so not dispensing ice   Del H. • Midlothian , TX • September 03, 2018

The problem was that the motor coupler & shaft had a tiny bit of rust at their union. With the weight of the ice bin it rusted in the lowest position. This didn't allow the motor coupler to float on the shaft. There is a spring inside the shaft that pushes up on the motor coupler keeping it engaged in the ice bin coupler above. This coupler in turn rotates the auger in the bin to dispense the ice. I removed the motor coupler & shaft, tapped the coupler loose and filed off the rust. This allowed... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You One of the fan blades broke off the condenser fan   Kevin C. • College Station , TX • April 03, 2017

I pulled the refrigerator out, removed the back panel, disconnected the fan motor. I did not know how hard or easy it would be to remove the fan from the motor shaft so I removed the motor with the fan attached and then removed and replaced the fan. This would not be necessary if you have a lot of strength, but if you need leverage to push the fan down on the shaft you might want to disconnect and remove the motor fan assembly too. After replacing the motor assembly and reconnecting I tested by... Read more

My KitchenAid refrigerator was not cooling, but the freezer was working perfectly. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The handle on the refrigerator door was broken and needed to be replaced   Richard W. • Baltimore , MD • April 12, 2015

Took off the freezer door, took off the top hinge on the refrigerator door, replaced the handle, re-installed the top hinge and the freezer door. This is a two person job - one to remove the top hinge and replace the handle, while a second person holds the refrigerator door in place. Replacing the handle was easy. The most irritating part was figuring out what parts to order. The drawing of the refrigerator door (Drawing # 4) used to figure out what parts to order was not clear. I paid $8... Read more
